Pretty good but a little unpolished

The campaign of Spellforce 3 took me about 65 hours and I really enjoyed playing it at any time. I could really dive into the game world and sometimes after a few hours I wondered how time could have passed so quickly. I also found the story very interesting, especially everything around the Xarlonthep. However I only started with patch 1.35 because apparently there have been so much bugs right after release. But even though I couldn't find any serious bugs, the game still seems unpolished in many places. Sometimes my male character was addressed as a woman. Sometimes dialogue options were in English instead of German or there were minor spelling mistakes. Also the end felt a little rushed and leaves you with several unanswered questions. But this also might be a sign for a future DLC, who knows! All in all it's a good game and as a true Spellforce series fan this game should not be missing in your library in my opinion.

Great Game Great Story

Its my first and an short review of this game. I only played the Story and loved it. Till the End i'm more into the rpg-part but the strategy also has a lot of benifits to deal with. I won't go into depth with the hole elements of the game, for this is my english not as good as it has to be. But as least i can say, the story was thrilling and if you be open for something like this, you probaply become addicted. Play it and just enjoy it.

Shame its so bug ridden

This is an absolutely amazing game that falls flat on its face. I really love it, I really do, but there are some major fixes needed for me to recommend it. Some of the quests are so vague, I have been looking for the answers online in frustration, and some levels just seem to stall, and there is no way out. It is such a shame, is if it did run flawlessly through the campaign, it would be one of my all time favourite games. It is already, but these shoddy problems are just killing the game. It just brings the game to a stand still. Also the balancing on some levels is WAAAY out, its redicolous. I hope it gets fixed, it would be great to hear that. Buy it, but be prepared for massive frustration at times.

Drawn in

I love this game. I was skeptical at first and thought it would be something to pass the time but it really drew me in. I love the storytelling, the fact the main character has voiced dialogues and the many conversations. If you like a good story and want to take the time to care about your companions than I think this game is for you. I only wish there was more character customization. That's my one complaint. The rest is fantastic, especially the world art.

Quality and attention to detail

SpellForce 3 is part of a saga that blends RPG and RTS in a rather appealing mix (think Warcraft 3, but with much greater emphasis on the RPG part). This particular installment offers solid RTS gameplay with many interesting ideas (a unique worker model with detailed transport and production chains) combined with an enjoyable action-RPG model and, most specially, a well-written campaign that makes the most of the fantasy setting and keeps you engaged the whole journey. Graphics, sound, art direction are excellent, and writing, voice-acting and music in particular are truly outstanding. In general, the game boasts a high level of quality, care and attention to detail throughout. It's a labor of love, and it shows. If you have any interest in the genres involved (particularly RPGs), it's an easy recommendation Note that there is a fundamental problem with the RTS model in that there's a "snowball effect" in terrain acquisition - if AI gets a hold of enough, there is almost no way to overcome it (I believe it "cheats" so the unbalance is fundamental). This forces a "rush or be rushed" style of play in RTS-heavy missions that is at odds with the general design of the game. This however, is not a big enough problem to overshadow the general quality of the product. Finally, note that an upcoming patch may "streamline" (simplify/dumbify) the RTS side to to bring it more in line with the expansions, which is not to my liking at all.
