Enter the world of SOMA and face horrors buried deep beneath the ocean waves. Delve through locked terminals and secret documents to uncover the truth behind the chaos. Seek out the last remaining inhabitants and take part in the events that will ultimately shape the fate of the station. But be careful, danger lurks in every corner: corrupted humans, twisted creatures, insane robots, and even an inscrutable omnipresent A.I.
You will need to figure out how to deal with each one of them. Just remember there’s no fighting back, either you outsmart your enemies or you get ready to run.

Interesting setting. That's the positive. On the negative I found the game extremely boring. I wanted to finish it just out of curiosity but i never did. Lots of "puzzles" that have no meaning and no one understands while some "supposed-to-be-scary" monster is patroling. Lots of walking in an environment thats not really changing a lot or is captivating in any way. I give this game 3 stars because of the whole philosophical struggle with consciousness. That was a great idea. The rest of the game is worth 0 stars.
SOMA starts out interesting. I didn't know if my apartment was reality, or if the beginning was a "dream." I got to the place where the Curie was supposed to be when I had to stop due to headaches again. This is the first time that a game has ever given me a headache, and I have played every kind of game (except MOBAs) since the NES and Atari. About 30 years of shooters. I thought it was due to having a cup of coffee, but today I got it bad again after about 30 minutes in the water scene area. I have read that people were turning down the DOF, turning off other graphics options to stop it from happening to them. SOMA seemed interesting, but this is the first game I cannot finish playing.
Pros:
- The story seemed original and interesting. I want to watch the rest in a Youtube video but I won't risk this kind of migrane headache again.
- The sounds were really good, and it's just too bad the game will not work for everyone. I think if I was one of the lucky people it would have been amazing, because the ambient aounds, even in stereo were nice!
- I do not care for these "run and hide" games, but it was balanced well (up to the point that I reached before I had to stop anyways). Even though there are "deadly robots" I think only 1/3 of the time is spent with them in the vicinity, lots of good exploration.
Cons:
- Cannot turn off DOF
- The game may crash or not start if you have certain audio cards or on-board chips. I got one of the common errors saying "Fmod cannot start," so I had to turn off my sound software which took my usual gaming experience from 3D audio, to basic stereo audio :/
- Headaches for some people caused by either audio, or in my case the video. I read about other gamers getting it from the graphical settings like chromatic abberation
OVERALL 3/5 Better than average, but not being able to use 3D audio or finish due to forced graphical design elements that caused me headaches... I cannot recommend this to others.
But really, game is worth money. I'm not a big Amnesia fan, but Soma - I really liked it. One of this games you will not forget. Great story, design and overall execution.
I like the theme, and I mean I REALLY like the theme. And for the genre... It made me think about who we are as individuals. The scary parts aren't too brutal. There are monsters you need to avoid, but nothing groundbreaking. The atmosphere is awesome. Definitely worth it.
