Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

The beginning was not my style since I don't like cut-scenes, and it is somewhat slow at the start. But it gets better and better and better and fully deserves five stars... A very well done game, just finished in on August 2022. Long enough to not feel like a rip-off, but does not feel endlessly stretched like some other games. Wander around the world, swim around islands (or use a boat) walk on island and so on. You can get over 3 million dollars quite easily, and once you found your first red envelope always eat and throw in some tea to make fighting easier. Missing information in the controller setup page: Cursor down key pressed short: Holster gun. Cursor down key pressed long: Drop gun or bag. Cursor up key, short press: ready your gun. E key Counter an attack, but only hit it ONCE, and only when the enemy is red. Safest fighting style. The timing is VERY fair, you do have enough time to hit the key. F and E key Stronger enemies require F = duck and often E afterwards, and you must react very quick. These fights are difficult at the beginning, avoid the fat brawlers until you've leveled up. Savegame location in my case: G:\Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition\Save. Backup those files for extra save slots, or to save resurrection costs at the beginning when you don't have enough money yet.

...and you should wake 'em up because this game has a deep fighting system, variety of missions, intense story, crazy gun fighting, and collectibles that do not feel like a chore. People would call this *another* GTA clone, but they are (mostly) wrong. This game is focused on melee fighting. Guns are present here, but you will not keep them for a long time. You can upgrade your skills and face (how people respect you, higher means better perks) and learn new moves. Here, you have two XP meters with different perks, Triad XP, and Police XP. Optimally, you want to balance yourself being a cop and a Sun On Yee member, meaning that in missions, recklessness is discouraged. Hitting civilians, damaging properties, and stealing cars will lower your Cop XP. You don't even have to steal cars because you can buy cars and keep them in a parking lot. These systems alone differentiate Sleeping Dogs from other open-world games. I feel like this game could be more polished due to how many times I have witnessed enemies and allies walking and running in place unaware of obstacles in front of them and broken ragdoll physics. Despite that, I am glad I bought this. I feel like you should experience this also. I got this game for three dollars on sale. For a game this big, I am basically stealing from these people, and the DRM-less part of GOG is a cherry on top.

If it was not for r/gog I would have never known about this game but people were raving so much about this title that I decided to check it out. Reviews are excellent across the board on Reddit,GOG, Steam, Youtube, Metacritics. I only played the game for less than an hour but I am already impressed with this game. Graphics are very nice for older game, voice acting is excellent and the story is interesting. I am looking forward to play this game more.

The game provided me with a real sense of immersion. When wandering the streets of Hong Kong, the sound design is quite good and as mentioned, immerses you in the world paired with graphics that have aged pretty well even when playing on a large screen. Gameplay mechanics are solid and reliable + satisfying. Story is good and provides replayability. One big con people mention is the driving physics but I personally find them to be quite fun and satisfying with a slight learning curve. The radio station Boosey & Hawkes is a good one too

Pretty much GTA but chinese. Better combat, and graphics in some ways than GTA V. Its pretty amazing since its a 10 year old game. best 3 dollars ive spent lol. Seriously, pick up and try it out, u wont regret it. Thank you GOG for giving the gaming world what they want, or at least what most people in the gaming world want lol. It's amazing!
