Description
Life between myths. Lead your clan into legend or obscurity. Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind is a storybook strategy game, immersing you in a land of old gods and magic.

Hundreds of small encounters build into an epic, multi-generational tale of survival and inter-clan alliances. Six Ages is the spiritual successor to acclaimed King of Dragon Pass, taking place thousands of years earlier in the same shared world of Glorantha. Part role-playing, part resource management, you'll always be making decisions with long-term consequences, for you and your clan.

  • Design your own clan, visit the gods, become respected, raid your neighbors' cows
  • Over 400 interactive story scenes, with deep simulation systems driving their appearance and outcomes
  • Multiple difficulty levels, and the option for Iron Willed players to limit reloading
  • Gorgeous hand-painted high-resolution illustrations
  • Same world as King of Dragon Pass, but a new clan: the Riders, with their own myths, and 4x more world to explore
  • Discover, appease, and make deals with spirits in your territory

Glorantha is a highly detailed Bronze Age world, similar in many ways to our own. But it exists in a magical universe where the laws of physics are subordinate to the whims of the gods and spirits. To understand Glorantha, leave our mundane world and enter the world of myth. The Sun is a living god, not a nearby star. Countless gods exist, some even more powerful than the Sun, and all have the power to directly affect humanity.

In Six Ages, you play specifically as a Riders clan, who revere various gods in their particular mythology, including Gamari the Horse Mother, and your culture hero, Hyalor... but you would be foolish to forget Raven the Trickster. He has not forgotten you.

Glorantha is also the setting of other rich narrative games/experiences, including King of Dragon Pass, HeroQuest, RuneQuest, God Wars, and others.

Worth the Wait

Ever since I found King of Dragon Pass years and years ago, I've been enthralled by the game's concept. I can't remember how many times over the years I've opened my web browser just to type, "Games like King of Dragon Pass," only to get the same handful of responses that were only ever extremely vaguely in the ballpark of KoDP. To finally get another game like KoDP, and a direct sequel set in the same intriguing world at that, is amazing. I can only hope that this time around more people play and appreciate the product and it becomes a genre of its own, like it should've done nearly 20 years ago.

Nice stories

The game is beautiful, and in-game stories are quite interesting, and also not pushy in a moral sense - you can be "bad" to an extent. I enjoyed the unusual perspective of the pre-historic people viewing the world as full of spirits, gods, and mystical creatures - all of whom have a real impact on everyday life - which is then combined with a constant struggle against famine and incessant small-scale warfare. The issue I had was with the gameplay experience - it felt like drowning slowly, even on "normal" difficulty. No matter how hard I tried to manage the limited resources, the situation kept on slowly getting worse without a chance of improvement. I guess this can be rebalanced in later releases. A challenge is ok, just give us tools/chance to address it... Future releases might also have a stronger overall narrative - beyond "lore" - weaved into gameplay, so the game feels like it has a direction with some stories told along the way, not just a collection of stories from the same folklore. I guess this was done to increase replayability via the "create your own story" approach, but I'm not sure it works. Overall I don't regret buying the game.

King of Dragon Pass 1.9

Six Ages is a great game. It is basically a streamlined version of King of Dragon Pass with various new systems and all new stories and events. You have to manage your clan, make sure people are fed and happy, please the gods, explore lands close and distant, negotiate with other clans, practice magic, fight, etc. etc. I have heard people compare it to the Banner Saga, which I have not played yet, but I think the gameplay is fairly different. In Six Ages, you do all of the actions above by picking options in the various screens and events, not by e.g. positioning armies or walking around places. There are many, many events, which are beautifully painted scenes with text, where you have to make interesting choices that will effect the management of your clan and the world. There is really no other game quite like it; the genre is unique. My full review: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198084263474/recommended/881420/

I like King of Dragon Pass

I bought this in 2021 and played it then. I forgot why I quit and as I just finished a game of King of Dragon Pass and came to this, I remembered. The game is still a fun narrative engine but I really hate how the raids were made into a series of choices through a menu. They do not feel as impactful and in the end you default to just a few. I think the KoDP model was perfectly fine. It has tension when you picked your tactics at the beginning and then had pivotal moments that could ruin your characters or bring a swift end to the fight, or swing it one way or the other. Here it's a push and pull kind of system with a few meaningful choices and multiple mediocre ones in the middle. I don't enjoy it and won't be playing this anymore after this. I think giving more pivotal moments per combat is fine, but I don't need to tell my troops to always advance advance advance fight fight fight each and every battle. They are not that central to my enjoyment of this sort of game. The narrative and the long-term game is what I'm here for. The fights can just be a simple choice of tactics with a bit of spice thrown in now and then. I don't know if the second game of Six Ages has the same system, but I assume it does and so I removed it from my wishlist.

Sacrifice Cow for Fire Lance

So this is basically a remake / sequel to one of the most unique games: King of Dragon Pass. This is not a traditional strategy game or city builder. You can not micromanage yourself to victory, you can't build a perfect economy, there is no military victory. Its also not fair or balanced. Its a visual novel about a tribe of horse nomads. What sells it is the vibe the game creates. The art, the writing, how the world unfolds ... Its just kinda magic.
