Silver, a corrupt and sinister sorcerer, rules the land of Jarrah with an iron fist. He and his henchmen have abducted the village women as part of a pact with the almighty god, Apocalypse. Now, only one man can put a stop to Silver and his minions. That man is you, David, a promising young knight whose wife is among the captured. In order to succeed you'll need to recruit allies, master your swordplay, learn the art of magic, and venture through hostile worlds teeming with Silver's corrupt followers to find 8 lost artifacts. Begin your quest, and become a hero!
Silver is the European answer to JRPGs, which were very popular at the time. With eye-candy in the form of pre-rendered 2D backgrounds, manga-inspired character design, and console-style gameplay, it introduced PC gamers to a new genre. This game is very unique on PC as there are only a few such titles on this platform, so if you feel like trying a different approach to role-playing, then this is a title for you!
Form your party from a cast of interesting and diverse characters, each with their own unique traits.
Gripping story and polished gameplay combine to make a “simple” RPG that’s still a lot of fun.
Unique combat system with real-time, fast-paced action--you assume direct control over one of the characters, and the rest of your team fights on their own.
This game is one of those forgotten gems that was overshadowed by bigger releases and never got the recognition it deserved. It's a fun, funny and challenging adventure romp with a fairly original storyline (in so much as the bad guy kidnapping the heroes girlfriend can be original) and now its on GoG I can shelve my dreamcast version once and for all and say goodbye to the most irritating control system ever conceived for an RPG.
I played up to 10 hours in the game and couldn't find a reason to keep on it until the end. It is a shame since I've read mostly good reviews about it when it was released, and I had my expectations high. Turned out reviews were deceiving, since It is hard to find the RPG or even adventure characteristics in the game, as it was sold, reviewed and praised for. In fact, this game is a tipical PC 90's beat'em'up, in the tradition of Time Commando, with mostly streamlined progression, tank movement and "hold button and press direction" attacks (like 4D Boxing or Alone in the Dark). The fact that it has elements such as mana, spells, weapons and party (npc controlled) is not enought to turn it into RPG, or even Action-RPG as Secret of Mana is.
Story is dull and simplistic, but may captivate children. Graphics were rather nice for its time and still hold itself nowadays. I can understand others users reviewing the game as good, since the probably played it in infancy as their first game, when it can really be captivating for its length, simpleton gameplay (easy for children to catch), graphics and the many weapons and characters the game has.
I got this game back in 2002 in some best of edition and I was not lucky enough to be able to run in on XP system because of graphic drivers. Since then I was trying constantly to be able to run it and finally a year ago I played Dreamcast version on emulator and was really surprised by the story, graphic and game systems. It is a very nice game, the gameplay is not very difficult but still engaging and I absolutely loved some of the characters. Backgrounds are beautiful with some animations making the world somehow lively. Even the story is quite interesting and you wont be able to stop playing until you come to the end. So I recommend it to anyone who likes action rpgs - this is the real action rpg not Diablos!
There are countless years since i wait for this game. I saw it first time as a bad cracked pirated copy... Now i have the chance to get it . Thank you GOG, thank you.
One of the best EUJRPG (?), if not the only one.
This was the only game on the Dreamcast that I played with gusto. I never owned the console, and nothing else that I tried on the console kept my interest enough, but this game just grabs you. I loved the interesting take on combat (variety of directional swipes that combo nicely with the right flow), the diversity of items and weapons, and the storyline to boot. While I will admit that the storyline was not particularly revolutionary, it was enough to keep me interested and moving forward. The voice acting is quite excellent for all characters, save your own (David). But to be honest, these two critiques are surface at best, and obviously could not detract from me believing that it's worthy of a 5-star rating. With a play-style reminiscent of old-school Adventures of Zelda, this game is a classic entry to the genre, and cannot be missed!
