Sid Meier’s Pirates!

A classic, sandbox precursor kind of game. The diversity in gameplay is a big pluds for this game, as it blends strategy and action very well, it even has some "stealth" sequences, so a lot of variety. I played this on 3 different systems dating back 20 years, and I liked every versions. This game cannot be finished though I think, well, at least I never finished it, even after finding numerous relatives and a couple treasures. Your character evolves as the game goes on, you get slower in combat especially, which is a major factor that forces you to adapt. A game that every gamer should try at least once.

This game was released 20 years ago, and still maages to captivate. One of the best, if not the best, Pirate sim games out there.

GOG has a bunch of pirate games, but this is the only one you need. It has the open world feel, without the clunky controls found in titles like Sea Dogs. While you can't make your own character, You do get to guide his fate at every step. Do you concentrate on being a career pirate? Do you go on a quest of revenge? Do you save your family? Do you romance a governor's daughter? How many ships do you want in your armada? Its all up to you. This is one of Sid Meier's best games, and it will suck a lot of your time.

I've been playing this since it came out and my only complaint (other than some mild stability issues) is that there isn't more. if someone wants to make a new version I'm in.

This game is so simple but it remains the best pirate game. WTF why can't anyone just mod this?
