Sid Meier’s Pirates!

Other people said the most important things already... But i want to add: I LOVE this game. I never was a pirates! fanboy and i never played pirates! before. I actually loved the screenshots back then, during previews and gave the game a shot. I bought it ... and it had the "typical" Sid Meier addiction. The best thing is: Its still playable in 2016. The first steps (character, szenario, skills) take like 1 minute - and the game throws you right into the adventure. I play this since release here and then. I even bought the PSP Version ... Its not THE BEST GAME EVER MADE .. but if you like colorful, cheerish, pirate-settings and just want to "do stuff" and conquer colonies and battle ships, without ANY complications (like re-learning the game after a long break) - this game is for you.

This is final evolution of Sid Meier's Pirates! series. The formula used in previous games is polished to maximum. New additions are "cinematographic duels", items (which you need to buy but they'll stay with you for all your career once purchased) and dancing with governors' daughters (which will be a very boring/very nice to different people, but they are completely optional). Very nicely done game. Fully recommended for the fans of Pirate-themed games.

Pirates is not really a game as much as it is a series of mini-games - basic turn-based battles when assaulting a city, numberpad key hitting in sword fights, timing your moves to the music when romancing a governer's daughter, a simple economic simulator when moving goods around etc. It never becomes very complicated and is actually quite repetitive. So why 4 stars? Simple because it is a LOT of fun. You have great freedom in moving around the Carribean and the tasks you take on are really up to you. You do not have to complete all the missions to get the maximum score, you are not locked into any linear path at any point and your games can be vastly different, purely because you do not need to follow any strategy whatsoever. It is simply FUN. Don't get this if you want some deep strategy, elaborate plot or complicated number-crunching economics simulator. But you want to switch off your brain and glide around cartooney Carribean doing whatever comes into your mind, well, definitely give this a go. P.S. Using Windows 10, never had any issues getting it to work

This is a good update to the Pirates! line of games. There is A LOT to do and collect. Pirates! is an enjoyable little adventure game consisting of combat, adventure, and puzzles/mini-games. The sword fights are challenging as opponents get tougher and the difficulty increases. My only gripes are it gets repetitive after your third or fourth adventure, which happens in these sorts of games, and there's far too much dancing. I highly recommend this game; you won't regret it.
