Best civ
Best Civilization ever made. Graphics still hold up surprisingly well even today. Deep strategy, great music, and endless replayability. The last Civ before the one-unit-per-tile era — featuring colonies, vassal states, and true empire management. A masterpiece of its time.

Best game in the series IMHO
The last "real" Sid Meier's Civilization game for me. Honestly nothing compares to it before and nothing compares to it after. When I think of Sid Meier's Civilization games I think of this one. I still play it regularly to this day.

Best of Civ's
This os by far the best of Civilization games. S great base game with good expansion and even better mods. I played lot of them and still play Realism Invictus, the most complete and realistic mod. each game is different with enormous psossibilities. Civ V was a complete garbage and Civ VI is scum, both of them runied the Civilization spirit! this one is the last which remains. Hundreds of hours of entertainment assured if you like to make your own History

Culture Flipping for fun!
I have the Steam version of the game. I will probably pick this up again when it goes on sale so I can have a DRM free version. Civ4 is brilliant. It is more user friendly than Civ3 and has more features than Civ5 (culture flipping for instance). It makes me wonder what the heck Firaxis is playing at. But, Civ4 is a truly great game. If you like strategy games, it is hard to go wrong with Civ4.
