Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri™ Planetary Pack

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is a turn-based strategy game that is very similar to the Civilization series. SMAC, however, features many small nuances that set it apart, and, in my opinion, make it a better game. In SMAC, you can create custom units. The combat is somewhat more complex (and thereby more interesting). Short in-game video clips add tension to the game and lead me to question my decisions. As well, SMAC has a deep and well-written lore that urges me to progress to the next stage of the game. If you are a fan of turn-based strategy, this is a must buy.

The play is varied and interesting enough for all types of gamers. You can focus on war, economics, discovery and more. The back-story and cut scenes are epic. The voice over work may be the best I've ever heard. This game is a masterpiece.

This game is amazing. I gave four stars instead of five because this version has the "Scrambling Air Defense Bug". When you hit the turn button and the other players move your air-to-air units will scramble if an enemy air unit attacks. Sometimes on large maps this air scrambling will cause the game to crash. Reloading the saved game again won't help. It'll just crash again. Do a web search for "Scient's patch" for a fix to the problem.

A tremendous game that managed to evolve the classic CIV formula to its Zenith, Mixing in social engineering, terraforming(That has yet to this day been matched) and a set of faction leaders that really interplayed well. It even had a robust unite design tool that let your imagination run wild. The expansion was just a wonderful addition to the main game, doing all the stuff an expansion should. And in disk form was very rare. untill GoG added it in I was always ruefull about loosing my precious CD

Excellent like all of Sid Meier's work Alpha Centauri is much like CIV2 in terms of gameplay but with a unique sci-fi backstory and flavour text that makes it a great piece of sci-fi in addition to being an addictive near perfect 4x game
