You play Sanjuro Makabe, a Mobile Combat Armor (MCA) pilot and Commander in the UCA Security Force. The UCA was originally formed by three dominant megacorporations (Andra Biomechanics, Armacham Technology Corporation, and Shogo Industries). Originally intended as a joint venture that would ensure the continued profitability of the three organizations that founded it, the UCA is now independent, and the dominant military power in existence.
Your mission is to locate and assassinate a rebel leader known only as Gabriel. All of the action takes place either on the planet Cronus or on the spaceship Leviathan. The Leviathan is the flagship of the UCA and is commanded by Admiral Akkaraju. Cronus is the only known source of the biologically active material known as Kato, an incredibly powerful energy source essential to the process by which interstellar travel is possible.
Your deadly enemy is The Fallen, a fanatical terrorist group lead by the mysterious Gabriel, threatens the balance of power on Cronus, and ultimately, control of Kato. You will fight them on your feet or from within one of the different types of Mobile Combat Armor, a giant mech which can run, duck, strafe, swim or transform into an ultrafast hovertank.
You will know the true power of giant robots!
Anime-influenced graphics and gameplay design
Fight on foot or pilot a giant mech in both open and urban environments
An interesting storyline with two possible endings
This game is a throwback to when shooters were very gritty and had choppy graphics but in a futuristic style that is reminiscent of Akira. The guns vary from normal looking (Assault Rifle) to ridiculous (Red Riot). The enemy AI is almost completely scripted but that adds to it's personality.
The story is quite good and has interesting characters that will talk to you remotely.
It's long as well and has multiple story arcs and endings throughout the game which speaks to it's replayability. Be sure to save the game when you are given dialogue choice.
I wish Monolith had made a sequel to this game instead of pushing the FEAR franchise so much.
As someone who absolutely adores Japanese and American culture, seeing a game like Shogo: Mobile Armor Division mix anime aesthetics with FPS mechanics had me insanely excited. After playing it, I can safely say that this cross-cultural game has exceeded my expectations. The gunplay is fun, the voice-acting is superb (for a game heavily influenced by anime) and the visuals, although dated, still have some charm to them.
I really hope that Monolith gives this game the sequel it deserves. With prettier anime graphics, a more involving storyline and a tighter mission structure, Shogo 2 could become another classic.
It's been more than 15 years since we've have our dose of anime-infused FPS action. Make Shogo 2 happen, Monolith.
This game came with my mother's Logitech mouse as a pack-in, which also contained other games by Monolith, including Claw, Get Medieval, and Gruntz (in which I'd like to see all those games again...).
I was interested because it combined the animé feel with FPS. Without me knowing, I eventually noticed the animé show references, which led me to becoming a fan of 'Evangelion'.
Such a great time-waster, shooting at mechs...
I Remember this from when it was first released it was an enjoyable game with great graphics and sound and played really well. I Loved the way the game played with the various missins.
Playing it today the game still plays well in fact plays really fast. The graphics have aged well wont tax the modern pc but for a 10 year old game it still stands up well.
First thing though you need to reconfigure the controls funny how you get so used to modern pc games controls that when you go back to older games with the keys all over the place you are amazed you could play it.
Sound is good with meaty explosions and the music is fine although does get repetitive after a while.
Gameplay is still fantastic lots of fast action and a lot of fun.
Overall a great game and for the money you must buy it if your into FPS or big robot combat
This is a great game but it will not run on anything past windows 7.
The game should be delisted until it has been updated through the "presvervation program" though that was the whole selling point of Good Old Games back in 08.
Good Old Games, Uncut, uncensored and DRM Free, that work on modern hardware.
Not "here are a bunch of old games that will launch but not run"
