Shadows: Awakening is the new adventure in the Heretic Kingdoms saga. After the members of the secret council known as the Penta Nera are assassinated, their souls are consumed by the Devourers – evil demons which possess the ability to absorb the memories and personalities of the souls they acquire and materialize them as their puppets. Re-emerging into the mortal realm once again, the demonic Penta Nera continue their quest for power and immortality, but at what cost?
Shadows: Awakening is a unique, isometric single-player RPG with real-time tactical combat. You take control of a demon summoned from the Shadow Realm – the Devourer – to consume the souls of long-dead heroes and embark on an epic adventure with challenging gameplay, a gripping storyline and enchanting graphics. Do you have the focus and wits to master the world of the Heretic Kingdoms? Gather your party, control powerful heroes and use their skills to your advantage. But who is in charge… the demon, or the souls that it has devoured? It's up to you to either thwart a major threat and save the world, or to plunge it into complete disaster…

This RPG has it all. Dungeons to explore, a lot of Action against Monsters and some really cool (and sometimes mind teasing) Puzzles. All an Adventurers Heart desires.
This game is interesting, the concept good, and the graphics appealing, but there are no words to describe how bad the UI is! Inventory management is an outright nightmare. Keys are so confusing that whenever I use a skill I have about 50% chance of switching character by mistake (and vice versa).
140hrs after completing the game with all three main Hunter, Warrior, Mage types.
Obviously not quite Diablo quality, think closer to Dungeon Siege if you've played those. Lore is decent, music is good, voice-acting is fantastic. Combat animation is satisfying. Most puzzles aren't very difficult, but one or two may take some thought. I'm playing on extreme difficulty and most of the game was pretty easy until the final boss (which was hard).
A certain mission convinced me that my run was bugged (Defeat the Werewolf Anarchists) because it wasn't obvious to me (sometimes I'm dumb) that you must switch out of Shadow realm to Physical realm and kill the enemy in both forms (I stayed in Devourer form where the target enemy will respawn infinitely). Most annoying part of the game for me is maintaining character stats in their ideal distribution (it's constant mental math at every level upgrade).
Overall I've had fun with it and will consider getting the DLC when it's on sale.
Thank you GOG for giving away the game free!
