My favorite genre of games is hack and own, I thought about buying it for a long time until finally GOG gave it away for free. I'm glad I didn't buy it, otherwise the rating would have been lower. Apart from the world switching mechanic, the game offers nothing interesting. It's very boring, doesn't focus on fighting a lot of enemies and shortening encounter times/defeating enemies more efficiently. What about balannce? Yes... It feels like a game made in 2000, and a lot has changed in the genre since then. There is no basic QoL. Unfortunately, I'm only giving it 3 stars because it was free. Quests on the level of fetch, pass, etc. make it even more boring.
Introduces innovative mechanics to the classics ARPG formula, like being able to change between the material realm and the shadow realm. This is shown in combat when there are enemies that cannot touch you when you're in the shadow realm, but there are ghosts, demons and other enemies that dwell only there. And in exploration you can loot treasure chests and sarcophagus that are only accessible in the material realm, while in the shadow realm you encounter crystals, sanctuaries, and you can access paths that are normally blocked. So far the game is really fun, I totally recommend it
I do like the 'puppet' system so I don't need to manage 4 people walking around close together in dangerous areas.
The characters and word building are quite interesting.
The inventory system is difficult to get accustomed to. I had expected a single page which would show all items but they are instead hidden behind the equipment slots.
It's a good game. Worthy to try it out.
not a bad game of course make sure to get it on sale. You get to play a group of characters, but only 1 at a time. You can switch between characters on the fly and transport between the dream world and the real world with your party to accomplish missions or kill foes. While it looks good, nice music and areas, overall its a bit clunky. The changing characters in the party is a neat idea, but it isn't done very well and often you'll be switching characters instead of using abilities because the keys are all together and it gets hectic when your in the middle of battle. Sadly you can't freeze or hard pause to choose skills, switch or any such things. Plus some of the characters you encounter are sub par and you'll just be using your main group all the time, or are forced to have someone in the part for "story" purposes.
Overall its fun to play but i had absolutely no need or want to replay the game again with a different main character or to try something different. Its ok to grab on sale, but not worth full price there are much much better fleshed out games to pay money on.
I'm hooked.I just downloaded this game today as part of a free giveaway. But even if you're reading this and the game is not currently free,it's still worth the purchase.I'm not even very far,and have only been playing a couple of hours, but I was so excited about it,I had to share by reviewing right away!
Cons:
-Intial Loading:The initial game load crashed twice,(though I kept impatiently clicking on the screen and attempting to play youtube videos in the background as it loaded.((don't do that))).Just be patient, lower the in-game graphics and the pre game cut-away scene will load eventually. Then once you're in the game, you can bump the graphics back up(maybe the problem was my computer only?!). And it shouldn't misbehave again.
-Controls(sort of):Also,it may take a minute to configure your controller to the game(again, maybe a me only problem?!),but after that, you're golden. And the nice thing is the intial few rooms is relatively empty and safe starting location to try out the new controls and figure out how to move.
Pros:
-Graphics:It is the most beautiful game I've ever seen.In both of the game's realms.
-Concept:Your character is a demon that also controls varies human bodies to interact with the human world/realm.So you spend the whole time Danny-Phantoming between worlds. With each realm having it's own things you can interact with and enemies to defeat.I mean what use is a book to an incorporal demon/ghost?And what threat, thus why attack, a corporal human if you're a incorporal spirit/ghost/thing?
-Gameplay:So far,the NPC talking and cut scenes are short.Which personally I HATE when there's super long cut-scenes in videos. Like, yes. Yes. Backstory. Great. Yada. Yada. I don't care. I just want to play, not watch a 5-10min long unskippable movie.
-Music/Sound Effects:If you pay close attention, the music/sound effects change between your character's various forms.Which I think is a nice touch.
Buy,if needed,and download this game!You won't regret it!
