Description
"This is a game that transcends its name and should be spoken of in the same breath as the genre’s best."
- Hardcore Gamer on Shadowrun: Hong Kong, their Best Strategy Game of 2015

Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition is the definitive version of Shadowrun: Hong Kong, the third standalone game in Harebrained Schemes’ critically-acclaimed Shadowrun cRPG series. This Extended Edition adds the all-new, 6+ hr Shadows of Hong Kong Bonus Campaign to the game as a free upgrade - delivering on a funding goal achieved by fans in Harebrained Schemes’ wildly successful Shadowrun: Hong Kong Kickstarter. The Extended Edition also adds audio commentary to the game, and a long list of improvements since the game’s initial launch - including new visual effects, updated dialogue, and new editor features (for User-Generated Content). Experience the most impressive Shadowrun RPG yet, hailed as one of the best RPGs and strategy games of 2015!

HONG KONG. A stable and prosperous port of call in a sea of chaos, warfare, and political turmoil. The Hong Kong Free Enterprise Zone is a land of contradictions - it is one of the most successful centers of business in the Sixth World, and home to one of the world’s most dangerous sprawl sites. A land of bright lights, gleaming towers, and restless spirits where life is cheap and everything is for sale.

New in Shadowrun: Hong Kong, thanks to our generous Kickstarter Backers:
6+ hour bonus campaign - Shadows of Hong Kong.
100+ minutes of developer commentary audio!
Revamped Matrix art and gameplay!
Illustrated transition animatics that play at key moments in the story.
Enhanced sound, and dynamic combat music that ebbs and flows.
Rebuilt Inventory UI and easier management of items in-mission.
All-new Cyberware skill-tree and new Cyberweapons that can be installed to your character’s arms.
The ability to enter turn-based combat mode as soon as an enemy is in view.
Powerful new Foci objects for spellcasters
  • A Classic, Story-Driven cRPG: Shadowrun: Hong Kong hearkens back to the golden age of computer RPG’s with a novel-like branching narrative full of sharp prose and deep character development. Immerse yourself in a smart, 15+ hour campaign with a diverse cast of all-too-human characters.
  • A One-of-a-Kind Cyberpunk Setting: Experience the unique “Tech meets Magic” dystopian future of Shadowrun, a fan-favorite game setting now celebrating its 25th anniversary. Shadowrun: Hong Kong is a perfect entry point to the setting for those with no prior Shadowrun experience, while providing plenty of classic Shadowrun characters and tech for veteran players to sink their teeth into.
  • Command Your Team: Just like Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong features a crew of flawed, dangerous runners with backstories that could only be possible in the tech-meets-magic Shadowrun setting. The members of your team are designed to play contrasting roles during missions, and each has a distinct set of skills, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Each team member also has challenges to face in their own lives, which you can choose to brush aside or play an important part in.
  • Gripping, Turn-Based Tactical Combat: When you’re running the shadows, every turn matters. Choose your actions wisely - move to better cover, charge into melee, or lob a fireball into a crowd of enemies. With over 200 weapons and spells at your disposal, every turn is filled with meaningful choices.
  • Skill-Based Character Progression: Choose a starting character archetype and build from there! Street Samurai and Physical Adepts use advanced combat skills to dominate the battlefield, Shamans and Mages summon powerful allies and cast deadly spells, while Riggers and Deckers provide critical technological support, projecting their consciousness directly into drones and computer systems. Shadowrun: Hong Kong’s classless skill system allows you to grow your character in any direction you choose.

Great Storytelling, but some issues

SRHK is a very storytelling heavy game with a lot of dialogue and textual descriptions of the game world. The story and characters are fantastic, and the writing is very atmospheric. I liked that it almost felt like an interactive novel at times. Combined with the dystopian visual design, it constantly gives you the feeling that the game world is dangerous, vast and unpredicatable. Instead of an open world, you navigate mission based levels. The maps are small, linear and offer little interactivity. Optional side goals give incentive to explore thoroughly. The fights are turn based and require you to use the level environment and the different skills of your party members to your tactical advantage. Certain handicaps like a limited number of turns are sometimes added later in the game. The challenge in the early game comes mostly from figuring out which tactics to apply, since only the bare minimum of game mechanics is briefly explained. Learning by trial and error is especially necessary for the Matrix/Cyberspace parts of the game. In fact, not even all abbreviations are spelled out. The difficulty ramps up considerably in the bonus missions. Some basic roleplaying elements are present, you can invest skill points ("Karma") in your character. The equipment system is very rudimentary and only really benefits your character, not your party. Enemies can't be looted, you buy the best gear from the merchants' limited offer. Problems I encountered: the game expects you to finish quests in a certain order. You can exhaust certain dialog trees and get the best equipment way before the end of the game. At 4K screen resolution, the levels look somewhat tiny even at maximum zoom. Sometimes character models had glitches or overlay text was stacked. I encountered some weird behaviour with mission items and goals. The load times are bad even on SSD. Expect the limitations of an indie game. Overall, you get a very solid indie game experience for a fair price.

A Different Shade

Much like its two predecessors, though with a few new elements, like how decking works. The decking wasn't quite as good; it's now a point-and-click stealth kind of deal; you know how well action sequences work in point-and-click interfaces. The characters are mostly likeable, and the story is good until the very end, where it goes OFF THE RAILS. Well, at least the series is consistent. It is exhausting, though; there is a LOT of reading and dialogue between missions, so pacing is absolutely glacial until that runs out. Still, with writing this good, I can't complain too much. This is my least favorite of the three, but still very good.

Just as good as Dragonfall if not better

Great story, great characters, great missions. This is just as good as Shardowrun Dragonfall if not better. It does have a few bugs, but nothing game breaking.

Middle Child but not Middle Quality

More of the Shadowrun you love, but also All New, All Different. Hong Kong does a lot of work to distinguish itself from Shadowrun Returns and really comes into its own immediately. Visuals are an easy 10/10, great combination of stunning art style and quality work. Mechanics are more of what you love but juuuust different enough to keep it from being boring. Characters are AWESOME. Unlike Shadowrun Returns, you have a dedicated team of Runners. With a couple of optional ones if you work for it. I love all of them. Story is...so unbelievably good. I actually like it more than Returns or Dragonfall. Meaningful choices? Feels like you're always making a decision that's going to either bite you in the butt later or pay dividends...or let's be real this is Shadowrun it is going to be mostly bad and kinda okay'ish lol Easy recommendation.

A bit of disappointment after dragonfall

Somehow a bit of disappointment after great dragonfall, plain story, linear characters, but still good tactical RPG. Could be much better if your choices will impact on situation in future.
