Shadowrun Hong Kong - Extended Edition

I presume you‘re familiar with at least one of HongKong‘s predecessors, so I can concentrate on the innovations in comparison to those titles! Generally speaking, there are improvements all round: - party banter has been enhanced. It‘s a non-official requirement to talk to your mates and most NPCs between missions. This sounds like a chore, but it‘s not – there are truly interesting conversations to be had. - your crewmates can now aid you far more during missions with their drone control/magic/decking. - Decking has been expanded to a hide-and-seek game with wonky controls, where you have to dodge the patrolling IC and their cones of view. Also, you have to play a memorization mini-game to hack the datastores. Both of those are actually better than they sound, because it means less matirx combat. - and last but not least, the story is interesting So, pure upside when compared to the previous titles. Why then only the average score? Because the name of the game is still supposed to be turn-based combat! And that combat sucks hard. Enemy AI is simple at best, dumb at worst and during the few times you have AI-controlled allies, it‘s dumb beyond measure. Even though one can actually argue that‘s good thing, because… it keeps fights fair considering the terrible RNG. I have no idea how the game calculates the displayed hit probabilities, but if you miss on 78% odds six times in a row and on 64% odds nine times in a row, you start to wonder… So that means whenever you‘re on tight schedule to finish an opponent quickly, save-scum. And that‘s not a sign for a good game.

Too many bugs! I struggled with endless loads and other bugs. I really wanted to love this game but at the very end I had all my save positions become corrupted and that's where I gave up!

I loved the whole lore and atmosphere of the game. Good characters, great story. However, decker class is horrible. Hacking should make infiltration easier, but i think it does quite the opposite. My decker got tons of karma invested in her decking, resulting in poor combat. The decking is extremly hard in my opinion and is extremely tedious and frustrating. The combat system is dreadful. I made tons of misclicks while trying to attack an enemy, and my squishy character just walks up to them, getting me killed. I am so tired and burnt out on the combat of this game that i still have the game over music playing, 2 hours after my characters died. I HATE this game.

I LOVED Dead Man's Switch and Dragonfall. And they both worked perfectly on my computer. But, Hong Kong...the load times were so slow I could get no joy from playing it. In fact I just gave up trying to play out of frustration. I personally do not understand why they had to change a game engine that worked just fine. There is a reason why we have the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Next time, please just focus on the stories, and don't mess with a perfectly functional engine. We are starving for more Shadowrun stories to play, so it is a shame that this one just is not playable due to unnecessary fiddling with the game programming. Eagerly awaiting the next FUNCTIONAL Shadowrun episode. I love Shadowrun.

Even more naive characters and simplistic plot All in all enjoyable, but meh
