Disappointing
I love RPGs old and new and really wanted to like this. It had an intriguing story open, nice old school graphics, sizeable map with no pre-determined plot pathing, but after 16 hours of excruciatingly annoying game play I've had enough. Combat is very difficult and you will die over and over again regardless of your level. Running away from combat is bordeline impossible unless you are close to a map exit point, so "live to fight another day" doesn't really apply to most fights. The magic system feels pointless - almost every spell is useless except for healing. Magic using characters are better off using missile weapons. If the magic was better it would at least give you some tactical options for combat. Healing spells and potions take FOREVER to work, so they are useless in combat. There are named NPCs that you cannot even talk to, presumably because an event hasn't triggered but I lost interest before I could find out. Forget trying to talk to the townsfolk, as they don't respond either. If you're still determined to try this wait for it to be deeply discounted on sale (I paid $4.99 US), but even then I cannot recommend it.
