At the very heart of Septerra lies the Core, a huge Biocomputer. Seven continents at different elevations, each with its own unique people and culture, orbit around the Core.
According to an ancient prophecy, Septerra's continents will one day converge and join in orbit together on one level - this is the Legacy of Marduk, the Creator's son. The Chosen, fanatical believers in the supremacy of their own wisdom and technology, impatiently try to force the issue - causing a global catastrophe which threatens the lives of all Septerreans.

Meanwhile, amongst the Junkers, a young woman named Maya gets caught up in the developing maelstrom and soon finds herself confronted by seemingly insurmountable problems. Without help she stands no chance of fulfilling the Prophesy before Septerra perishes. But whom can she trust in a world torn by war and treacherous intrigue - a world on the edge of the abyss?

Found solution to play game (Windows 10)

I found a tip from Xeshra on the Septerra Core GOG forum. The instructions shared below, which allowed me to play the game on Windows 10, are essentially the same as the instructions provided by Xeshra except for updating information such as the link to the latest patch on GitHub. 1. Install the GOG game 2. Download Septerra Core v1.04.0.11 according to your system: https://github.com/M-HT/SR/releases/tag/septerra_v1.04.0.11 3. Unpack the downloaded zip file and then copy all the files from the unpacked folder into the game installation folder (overwrite files if asked). 4. Now open the Septera CFG file with Notepad. Make the following changes as needed: Display_Mode=fullscreen Display_VSync=on Display_Width=1440 Display_Height=1080 Display_Resizable=no Display_Scaling=basic Display_IntegerScaling=no Display_DelayAfterFlip=0 And then under CPU settings # CPU_SleepMode=standard/reduced/nosleep - CPU sleep mode (to prevent Septerra Core from consuming too much CPU) CPU_SleepMode=nosleep 5. If done properly and launched by using the new SR-Septerra application (SR-Septerra.exe), the game should work properly now. Fun game so far! If using a pregenerated shortcut to launch the game, remember to right-click on the shortcut, go to Properties, and alter the end of the Target line to SR-Septerra.exe

Failing to run smoothly even patched

I tried to run this GOG version of the game the first time ever recently, and I'm getting the typical running about 5 FPS on a modern system problem. I even downloaded the unofficial patch mentioned being on Zomb's Lair, and that did not make it fully tolerable. There was still a major issue when moving my mouse. The more I moved the mouse, the more and more the game seemed to just stall and have to play catch up, dropping all frames entirely for seconds at a time. So given all that, I'm doubling down joining the 1 star rating on modern systems club. GOG has a statement here, https://www.gog.com/about_gog, about making old games run flawlessly on modern systems. So sorry, high star reviewers like Apocalypse2001, I don't care what this game ran like when it was new in 1999 on systems back then. Or how good the gameplay might be when it does run fine somewhere sometime on some system, because GOG is selling it for real money today, advertising flawless operation on modern systems, and this game is failing to do so even with an unofficial patch that I should not have to be using for this version of the game. This isn't like a 40 year old book that can be read fine today if kept in good condition, or even a DVD that still works on my PS4 and HDMI monitor. This is a product that must operate properly to be of value, and at least for many, this version is not operating on modern systems as advertised by GOG while asking for your money today.

Septera Core...first JRPG i ever played

Its like yesterday i installed Septera Core demo on my old computer..i was younger..also it was in time of Duke Nukem 3D and Diablo 1+2.For the first sight whence the menu poped up i fell in love with the game.I made it till end of the demo:,,Demo contained introdution to the game..few story steps and it ended so fast that i wanted to get original copy into my young hands! =)".So i started to search everywhere i could but there was one small problem..here in Czech Republic are games of that type from Japan and another countries similar to this one so rare that it was immposible..when the time come i finally bought it via GoG.com.Thanks guys from GOG! we can play this game! Review So the game got nice graphics..story is awesome and did i forgot to tell u about the good old JRPG fight mode? for me 5/5 stars. If you ever played any of those good JRPG's you should give a try to this one.

Very grindy.

DISCLAIMER: I don't own this game on GOG. I played this game in the 90s or maybe the very beginning on 2000s, while also playing Final Fantasy 8-9 around the same time. I have to say, the setting an characters were interesting, and the battle system was okay for the times. But there was an outrageous amount of random encounters. After midgame you could sometimes get them at several-seconds intervals, I think. And in my opinion, the battles ran slower than non-boss battles in FF. Any way, I haven't finished it because of this grindfest at that time, and, frankly speaking, there were better JRPGs available at that time, as well as western CRPGs such as Baldur's Gate and Fallout. In the end, this game is okay, but prepare yourself for repetitiveness.

Skip boring battles with a cheat code!!

TL;DR Great game, but with super-boring repetitive battles, do skip them with chat code or you’ll never beat the game (it’s waaaay to long) I *LOVE* the story in the game, how complex it is and how it progresses. I love how the world changes while you play. If you visit a city at some point in the game it’s political situation can be completely different later on. Heck, it can be even totally wiped out from the world map. Having said that, the game aged TERRIBLY! It’s super-long and drags forever. A proof? Check out let’s plays on YouTube. The only finished one has 137 15-minutes episodes (!!!) and I’d say the guy beat the game pretty fast (knew exactly where to go, what to do, etc). You’ll be forced to beat super-slow battles with petty enemies that you know you can easily beat over and over again (they respawn every time you go through a location). Because of that you’ll spend most of the time fighting beetles, crabs and zombies. That might be fun first few times, but believe me, you don’t want to go through essentially the same battle (just placed in a different spot on a map) for 20-th or 30-th time. Yup, it’s that bad. SO HOW TO PLAY THE GAME WITHOUT WASTING HUNDREDS OF HOURS FIGHTING BORING BATTLES OVER AND OVER AGAIN? SKIP FIGHTS WITH A CHEAT CODE! Now, I’m normally against using any cheat codes in games, but believe me, without it, you’ll get bored with repetitive battles very fast. You only need one cheat code: press Ctrl + F12 type iamarealweenie [enter] From now on press Ctrl + F3 after every battle starts. You’ll win it (getting a loot and experience points) without going through the hassle of actually fighting it. You might want to play through a boss battle and while fighting new types of enemies, but other than that, do skip at least 90% of the battles. The game will still torture you with never-ending mazes full of levers you have to pull in order to get through.
