A very different sequel

I had mixed feelings about this back in the day, mostly because it gets pretty bad IF you skip car setup, or do it wrong. I've never played a game where it makes this much difference. It's still an arcade racer so the options aren't complex, but it's the difference between flying past with excellent grip or float around like a wet soap. The racing is more akin to rallycross (and they would go full rally next in Screamer Rally). Opponents are not shy to ram you, so it can be frustrating but also makes for some awesome thrills as the AI can be fast and still mess up a lot, meaning you can be last out on the last lap and still win with a clean lap. It's still a looker in that retro way and the tracks are excellently designed. Only the draw distance is a little short but whatcha gonna do. As for bad points I'd single out the sound fx, especially crashing sounds are pretty horrible, but at least the landing sound after jumping is excellent. In no way a cheap cash-in sequel that's very different but also very, very good.

Amazing blast from the past!

Tough to get used to but when you get in the flow it plays quite a bit like RidgeRacer from back in the 1990s. I originally had this on PC CD Rom as a teen. Well worth a purchase but takes a bit of time to get used to controlls. I would recommend getting XPadder so you can use a controller with this game rather than a Keyboard and gamepads were not an option originally.

Doesn’t hold up well I‘m afraid

Screamer 2 used to be one of my favorite games as a kid and probably my favorite racing game so I picked it up to revisit the uncomplicated fun I remember I had with it. I‘m normally a sucker for old-school graphics but I‘m afraid that this time it spoiled the fun for me. I could go on and point out every dated aspect of the graphics but honestly the screenshots above just don’t lie. The pixelation and blurryness really makes it harder at times to even steer precisely. And I don’t feel like the track design or the car dynamics really make up for it. All of this isn’t the games fault of course but sometimes games just don’t age well. So as much as it hurts me I would recommend skipping this one and instead going for something more recent (or generally different by design like say Micro Machines). PS: The game ran pretty bad on my machine at first, so much as to slow down to a handful of fps as soon as more than two cars were on screen. The help section was...well, helpful and provided an easy fix.

Worth the low price guy's!

This is one of those titles that doesn't let you down, even considering the age of it. People that are expecting a game with Gran Turismo graphics should look elsewhere. We all need to keep in mind that these are GOG's. The graphics are good, although mainly the sense of speed is worth the price of the game. I raced only 1 game, and my hands are screaming for an Xbox compatible game controller. However, it's still one of the best I possess from GOG. I've seen Indie titles that aren't even as good as this game. Once you purchase this one? Just go to the support, and type in the title for support from the great community of GOG users, that will help you if you need a joystick.

Simply Amazing

As far as old racing games go I think Screamer 2 is one of the best racing games that I've played and you shouldn't miss. I still have an original disc of this game and it's installed on my pc to this day. Screamer 2 being an arcade racer still provides some form of tweaking to your car such as tire type, tire pressure, steering, brakes and also suspesions. The game also presents you with a variety of game modes ranging from the classic arcade match, time attack and 4 championships each with their own difficulty. For it's time Screamer 2 improves upon the original and has amazing graphics comparable to the first need for speed if not a little better (in my opinion). This game also spawned 2 more sequels, Screamer Rally (1997) and Screamer 4x4 (2001) which were well received as well. If you're a true racing fan you shouldn't miss this.
