Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you.
The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to Steelport, a once-proud metropolis reduced to a struggling city of sin under Syndicate control.
Take a tank skydiving, call in a satellite-targeted airstrike on a Mexican wrestling gang, and defend yourself against a highly-trained military force using only a sex toy in the most out- landish gameplay scenarios ever seen, igniting a city-wide war that will set Steelport on fire. Strap it on.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Saints Row the Third has a Linux version through Steam that's not very good. OpenGL 3.0 renderer so can only do medium graphics at best, iffy LAN support. Certain areas of the game prone to crashing.
The game theoretically works better with Wine, but of course the Steam version uses Valve's CEG DRM.
Getting this game DRM-Free on GoG allowed me to install the Windows version and play via Wine, and in practice, it does indeed work much better than Wine. Which is great because it's one of my favourite games and something my partner and I play together often.
after being annoyed with saints row 2 having game breaking glitches, such as freezing in certain parts of the map i was a bit hesitant in buying this but, saints row is the only GTA style game on GOG, so i picked it up for £4. it was the best £4 i ever spent, the game is very fluid and the fact it comes with cheat modes is fun also which can be disabled also a bonus for others, i have ran the game in dx9 and 11 modes and seen no issues, i reccomend this game to anyone who is a fan of open world GTA style games
TL;DR; - this is what GTA would be like if the focus was on being fun
Back when this game released, a lot of people bashed it for being too over the top and zany, especially compared to its main competitor, GTA 4.
Perhaps ironically, being so over the top and balls to the wall made the game incredibly fun. How over the top? The starting mission is you and your gang robbing a bank while dressed up as the gang, while an actor tags along as "field research" for the upcoming movie about the Saints. The melee attack while holding a gun goes for the balls
Character customization is great, you can make a man, woman, something in between, a zombie, or something more alien. I loved using a metallic skin, like an evil silver surfer.
Unlike GTA, the whole city is open for exploration as soon as you finish the tutorial mission. Exploration is encouraged as you can buy places to use their services, like the car shop to tune your stuff and gun shops to upgrade your weapons and buy ammo. Also unlike GTA, any vehicles stored in your garage are "infinite", you can run around with it, explode it, forget it somewhere, and you can always grab it again at the garage.
The game had such a big focus on fun that you unlocked cheats very early on. I personally avoided the "you no longer take damage", but I went all in on infinite ammo!
Also, if you compare it with GTA 4, you'll notice how better car handling and on foot movement is in SR3. It's more responsive and if you go back to GTA 4, it'll feel hella sluggish.
Simply the most fun you can have in front of a computer with your pants still on!
The franchise that gave us dildo bats returns for the finest installment of the lot. Third is the ultimate refinement (if you can use that word to describe a SR game) of all that made Saint's Row such fun to play. An absoute blast of a game from first to last. Including three full length DLC chapters for even more hours of mindbending frolicks, more customisation options than you could ever want, an obscene variety of weapons (and i do mean obscene) SR3 reminds us of a time when it was actually OK to have simple, stoopid, laugh out loud FUN playing video games.
Irreverent, naughty, hilarious and actually damn fine gaming. Even the Soundtrack ranks amongst the fines ever in a game. Including every DLC this is an absolute STEAL if you've never played it, and absolutely worth having in any collection even if you've played it to death like me... Some of the most fun you'll ever have playing a video game.
