Good graphics, but a deeply flawed game.
The game looks good and the controls handle well, but underneath that the game is a mess. The city has essentially no enterable buildings so in function it is just a bunch of boxes you have to avoid to get anywhere. And getting anywhere is tedious. Unlike previous Saints Row games where to travel around you had fun driving with cops chasing, in this game you just run there with super powers and nothing can touch you, so it is just holding the 'w' key with no meaningful player interaction. Also all events seem to be randomly located around the city, so expect two minutes of boredom traveling between each event. The events in this game are significantly worse than in previous Saints Row games as well. Essentially it is as if you took Saints Row 2 and got rid of the main story and replaced it with only the diversion. This is an entire game of nothing but mini-games and quick-time events. The fighting is also tedious. The addition of super powers means it is nearly impossible to lose a fight but it still takes forever to actually kill all the enemies so fights just feel pointless. There is a real lack of interesting characters as well. In Saints Row 2 there were story arcs around the characters in each gang and they felt like a real part of the world with the gangs controlling territory and attacking the player. In Saints Row 4 however, characters just appear out of nowhere one scene and have no meaningful story connected to them. It is clearly intended to be tongue in cheek, but the humor falls flat. It reminds me a lot of the infamous movie "The Room", in that the writers clearly thought they were conveying some human emotion but the audience is left out. The writing is thoroughly a disaster. The game also has major stability issues. It crashes about every half-hour and auto-saves are a rarity. It is so frustrating to go through the same hour of gameplay multiple times due to crashes. Get this only if you are a hard-core Saints Row fan, otherwise give it a pass.

What is love? Baby don't hurt me
short and simple: Saints Row 4 is a fun feast. It has so many fun moments and highlights ... After a while the gameplay may get a bit repeating, but that's the same with all open world games. I had a jolly good time when I played it, when it was still exclusive to steam and I am more than happy to finally see it DRM free. Sadly the GoG Versions of Saints Row 3+4 don't allow us to upload / dowload characters, that's a bit of a downer. That feature really should be implemented at some point. Still ... all of the SR games are worth their money, even if I could have saved a couple of bucks if I didn't rush to buy GooH and SRIV and got them from GoG Connect for free instead ... oh well.
