The world has been abandoned by its gods and is scarred from the rampage of the Titans. Humanity is struggling to regain strength and rally its forces. You, however, have more pressing concerns: your own life has been shattered and you must set off to reclaim what is lost amidst the darkness that is spreading throughout the world. Who knows, maybe you'll even save the world at the same time?
Freedom: Freely explore and take on quests at your leisure. Quests will have different ways to tackle them and different outcomes. You can play different parts of the game in whatever order you wish and shape your character individually.
Exploration: Discover quests and characters as you make your way through the diverse world of Risen 3 - Titan Lords. From quaint medieval-style towns to delving deep into the dank dark of mines, to the supernatural shadow world, there is a wealth of possibilities waiting to be explored. You will be able to traverse this world in a variety of ways, from swimming to climbing.
Enhanced combat: Featuring a revamped fighting system, with new animation systems in place that add nuance to the fights.
Magic is back! Crystal magic has returned, bringing with it devastating new combat abilities. Wield elements such as lightning, fire and ice to obliterate your foes, or make use of a multitude of additional magical skills to aid you in exploration - the choice is yours!
Guilds & factions: Choose to ally yourself with one of three distinct guilds, each offering unique skills, armouries and quests allowing you to approach your quest in very different ways. Discover additional factions that exist to bend the balance of political power in the world, each with their own agenda for you to uncover. Be careful which characters you trust – some might ally with you with the intent of fulfilling their own sinister plans.
The better Gothic with good controls.
The first two Gothic games were unplayable because of the terrible controls and terrible combat system. Risen (3) is perfect. You can play it with Xbox controller (Xpadder) too! I have all 3 Risen games on all systems and love all Risen games.
Risen 3 seems to be a return to Risen 1, and even the original Gothic series, following mobile-game-esque Risen 2. Sadly, not a lot was done to shake off the bad aspects of Risen 2, nor to make the game memorable.
Many of the aspects of Risen 2 are still here - the same map, the same characters, the same stupid mini games, the same cheap traps. You're still able to quickly jump to key locations - only this time you use teleports, like in Two Worlds, and the map you have still tells you where exactly to go to complete a quest - no challenge or thought needed.
Leveling up is again not very important, since like in Risen 2 you get a companion that will help make tough enemies easy, and unlike Risen 2, they never leave you. Your companion can also heal you.
They are tweaked somewhat from Risen 2, which makes their AI poor - they're slow to react, rarely attack monsters on sight, and opt to heal you when you're being attacked, instead of distracting your attacker.
But although incredibly useless sometimes, you don't really need them. Monsters rarely respawn, unlike Risen 2, so clear an island once, and you're done.
In addition, each island has some overpowered person who wants a hunting companion, and you can use that quest to clear most of the island.
At one time I had three companions - not exactly fair odds.
Combat tries to be strategic, with you being forced to learn the different monsters' patterns, but after a certain level you're better off spamming the attack key. If your sword doesn't do the trick, you can use a pistol, which has a shorter cooldown period than in Risen 2, so you can fire bullet after bullet at an opponent, without them hitting you once.
I eventually became invulnerable, being a demon hunter.
Didn't need to buy equipment, and didn't bother with potions, plants, amulets, etc.
There are plenty of chests around, and too many mindless fetch quests, and annoying inescapable action sequences.
The world is beautiful, but the game ends in a whimper.
Decent graphics but the scenario is quite average (though I would not say that it's poor).
The skill system is OK. If you are careful, you'll even manage to get all the attributes to upper limit;-).
The inventory is also quite good. Though I played with Crystal Mage and I didn't need the inventory too much: I was the killing machine myself:-).
The graphics and gameplay are good but the way the screen rolls around when playing started to make me feel queasy. Set the sensitivity to the lowest option and zoomed the camera in but still happened. The only other game I played that caused nausea like this was Gothic 3 so I should have realised when it was by the same company. Thankfully I bought it on sale so will bin it.
