Description
Locke D'Averam is a Revenant, a warrior-mage resurrected from an earlier age and summoned by a powerful wizard to save the island of Ahkuilon from a mysterious cult. Locke has no memory of his past life, but as he attempts his quest, he slowly remembers the truth... and what really happened to his soul all those years ago.

Released at the turn of the century, Revenant is an Action-RPG in a fantasy setting that offers a compelling narrative and an engaging experience. Locke's journey will take you across Revenant's strange and beautiful world, filled with dungeons and castles, interesting characters and secrets to uncover. What sets Revenant apart from other Action-RPGs of its time is its distinctive combat system, which bring its own unique flavour to the genre, providing an appealing blend of magic and melee combat that doesn't sour into the standard hack-and-slash formula. Despite its age, Revenant still offers an immersive experience that will have you gripped to the very end.

  • Real-time combat with an arsenal of moves and finishers
  • Hours of gameplay, with 30 levels of advancement, multiple unique areas to explore and wide variety of weapons and spells at your disposal
  • A dynamic, action-packed experience that requires tactical thinking, unbreakable resolve and a steady sword to complete

An incomplete piece of good arts.

"An incomplete piece of good arts." This is, in a nutshell, the best way I could describe the game Revenant in a single quote. I bought Revenant on PC back in the days and it's still in my shelf of those games that are "neither good nor bad, but that could have been way better with more love." As many points out, it's a game that starts strong... Really strong! The first few areas and missions show that the game had, at one point some really inspired and talented people in its development crew. The game is challenging, but doable and it's a game that requires you, early on, to make choices in terms of what to equip and what to bring or use. This works as this until the 1/3 of the game where the concept of the game changes from light RPG choices & stats to as much linear as you could get and where you litterally get stronger equipment by simply looking around the area. Each area has, by that point, its own 1 or 2 weapons (all swords) and 1 set of armor that fit perfectly to fight the boss at the end of the area. No mystery nor choices anymore. At that point, the number of quests drop insanely and you can do most of them by simply walking the light-maze like area. At some point, you got 0 reason to visit any previous area. It wouldn't be that much of a bad experience if the ending wasn't as much rushed and butchered. It's litterally like a "that's it, the end" appearing at a really bad time and, unlike most games in this genre, with absolutely 0 replayability or additional challenge. You can't even exit the last area (you're stuck there) and you're simply stuck at that save that precede the last "boss" (if you can call it a boss). There's clear sign that the project was abandonned by the 1/3 of it. So much that the game originally came with an half-baked PvP multiplayer mode with multiple characters, classes and stuff (main game has 1 class and 1 characters). I would give this 1.5 to 2 stars, but as the game comes with a game editor, I give it 3 stars.

A bitter sweet trip down memory lane

Before i write the review itself, i will mention one thing: If you played this game before and/or generally deem yourself to be a connoisseur of good old games, you will likely enjoy Revenant. If, however, you are a younger player or if you have no experience playing old PC games, i recommend getting something else - chances are 9 out of 10,you will be dissapointed and slightly irritated after playing Revenant. I personally bought Revenant because i never got around to finishing it during my childhood days - I decided to finally beat the game now, more than 22 years after it first came out. Now that i finished this RPG/Mortal Combat hybrid, it doesnt surprise me that I abandoned it in the first place, and here are the reasons: - There are no proper town portals, dispite the fact that the original Diablo came out years prior to this game. Sure, you have waypoints popping up every level or so, but the mechanic is clanky. - Very often levels are designed to be an annoying maze. This wouldn't be a problem if there would be a town portal mechanic. The game has strong sides to it. It has its visual charm, its own distinct feel to it. But for the most part, everything is somewhat lackluster - not bad, but not great as well. Plotline wise, you can tell instantly that the devs were inspired by Elric of Melnibone, but where Elric felt well written and badass, here the protagonist feels more like Squidward Tentacles - a grim, silent misfit without any sense of humour, and more importantly, one that has no charisma or an aura of dangerousness around him. The same goes for ALL NPC's and the general plotline and the lore as well: They are all present in the game, seemingly for the sake of just being filler material - you don't really feel their presence and could care less as to what happens next. Voice acting is funny at best, and pretty damn bad at worst. All in all, it's an OK RPG with interesting combat mechanics, but its hard to see it as anything but a Diablo clone

Solid 3

Just finished the GOG release on the game and can confirm some of the other statements in other reviews but disagree on some statements. Yes the game is buggy! Had to reload a previous save maybe 10 times due to being stuck or a lever refused to activate. It can feel a little unfinished at parts but not to the extent that it is not enjoyable but I guess certain conditions have to be met. It feels like it is supposed to be played as a sword wielder and nothing else. Magic only as support the way the exp system works. You have unlimited magic exp but limited weapon exp (unless you think 1exp per kill is ok) But some of the top reviews statements is plain wrong. There is no constant respawn, there is respawn but not enough to actually be botherd by it. There is no difficulty spike in the game, there are some enemys that force you to adapt halfway through but it is never unfair. And, yes there is a combat early in the game that force you to use hand-to-hand combat but it is easily done without lvling the skill at all beforehand. Be lvl 9 and have healing potions and it is easily doable. The story is ok but I guess I wil forget it quickly. Gameplay is quite nice. Think the game is a solid 3

RPG written in Diablo atyle

Nearly every aspect of this game was ripped out of Diablo. This is not Diablo though, this is an RPG. Love it for what it is. I played this game countless times when I couldn't connect to the battle.net servers to get my fix. I can't recommend it enough. If you love Diablo style gameplay, get this. It adds an intrigueing RPG / storyline mode to the style. I really wish there were more like it. The one disadvabtage of course is that evenetually the story ends, and you can't keep leveling your guy. It's all good though, the game is totally worth it. Espacially dirt cheap.

Combat done right

Played this +15 years back, I still have the CD here...somewhere... Anyway, about this game I give it 4 stars because: + vibrant world + various locations + an actually engaging combat system where you can deliver COMBOS and "fatalities" !!!!! + various enemies + other gameplay factors well executed (not perfect, but good enough): Interface, difficulty,... The only down point for me was the voice acting, it's so cheesy you could almost put it on your sandwich. The most satisfying point for me was the combat, finally a game that engages you in the melee of combat in stead of brainless zombie like button mashing. And since then I haven't seen a game doing this style of combat (or I missed it...). Anyway, if you are looking for something different combat wise and don't mind the age and it's voice-acting... go for it!
