Locke D'Averam is a Revenant, a warrior-mage resurrected from an earlier age and summoned by a powerful wizard to save the island of Ahkuilon from a mysterious cult. Locke has no memory of his past life, but as he attempts his quest, he slowly remembers the truth... and what really happened to his soul all those years ago.

Released at the turn of the century, Revenant is an Action-RPG in a fantasy setting that offers a compelling narrative and an engaging experience. Locke's journey will take you across Revenant's strange and beautiful world, filled with dungeons and castles, interesting characters and secrets to uncover. What sets Revenant apart from other Action-RPGs of its time is its distinctive combat system, which bring its own unique flavour to the genre, providing an appealing blend of magic and melee combat that doesn't sour into the standard hack-and-slash formula. Despite its age, Revenant still offers an immersive experience that will have you gripped to the very end.

  • Real-time combat with an arsenal of moves and finishers
  • Hours of gameplay, with 30 levels of advancement, multiple unique areas to explore and wide variety of weapons and spells at your disposal
  • A dynamic, action-packed experience that requires tactical thinking, unbreakable resolve and a steady sword to complete

My childhood

Got this gem from computer magazine (CD action) when I was a kid. It was and still is one of my favorite game. I loved the spell when you created food out of thin air and also some offensive spells the enemies and the animation of their death.

Great game...!

Wauw, I am so glad GOG released this game. I coudn't made it work on windows. This game is a really big part of my childhood. I found barbarian (Conan) and Sword and Sorcery movies, games and comics really interesting. Revenant is one of the best out there. What this game ment to me was in one word, The Athmosphere. Every detail is very thought out. From dead fish at the beach, half eaten bodies in the forests and so forth. The dungeons are most of the same, but you can tell every one is different qua style. The music compliments the game very well and I thinkt this game has some of the best music. Really, look the OST up on youtube it's really awesome. Than there is the gameplay. I red a lot of reviews where people state that the game is very difficult. And while that it somewhat true, it's really about the spells and hand to hand combat. You can really tell the develepors wanted a mixed playstyle of combat and spells. I think they dropped the ball there and had to thought it out a little bit more. For example: (I have the boxed version) and at the front of the box you see Locke in his Barbarian outfit, it's really cool. But if you play the game you get it very late in the game and the stats of the armor are quite low. So in my teen day's I was pissed off and sold the armor. But..now I found out you can cast spells that improve your armor and stuff and therefore, CAN where the armor like I did. Unfortunately I am more of a tank player and don't use spells that much, and this is pretty much the only game where I do. You can definately tell there where more ideas dropped. Like the warrior in the cafe and the amazon in the church. The develepors wanted more (supporting) playable characters in the game but they had to drop this idea. In the end the game is definately nót broken and the single player experience is really good. I had a lot of fun with this game and am so glad GOG released it. Give this one a try if you're into Sword and Sworcery and love a good atmospheric experience with fun gameplay. I really made a impact on me.

3,5 star - enjoyable, but has lacks

I'm not a big fan of Diablo/Torchlight style games. Therefore it's some kind of miracle that Revenant had something, which gave me the reason to play until the end. And beginning is actually quite promising. There is a lot of fight, but also some dialogues giving insight into game's world (BTW - there is quite wealthy collection of in-game books and scrolls describing various aspects of Ahkuilon), as well as some basic quests. Fight is very challenging, since it requires a lot to make a good use of evasions and generally being mobile. I like the fact that fight has variety even in basic attacks, which makes game more interesting than clicking on enemies over and over again. Further in the game there are just another areas full of enemies (and stuff to collect), which have differences in appearance and enemies you're fighting. Repeating the same scheme is not a good thing. And when your hero is stronger, fights difficulty also decreases and dont' require anymore such finesy and engagement like earlier. Sadly, also our weapons are quite limited. There are swords, bludgeons etc, but since it's more profitable for your character to train one type of weapon, it's better to use swords (since most powerful weapons in the game are swords). Using bow is so incredibly inefficient, maybe it's never repaired bug? . At least spells are very rich and useful even if you're deciding to put more stat points into strenght and endurance rather than mind. It's a shame that development of our character is in fact limited to strong sword-bearer with magic support or... Mediocre sword-bearer with stronger magic support. Ending also seem to be rushed and leaving some questions, which we'll never know the answer. Revenant has warm place in my heart, but it's one-time adventure with some issues. I didn't tried multiplayer (which have additional types of character - nice), nor editor, but... I don't feel that I need it. I feel that my adventure with Revenant is finished.

Fun, intense, action-packed adventure

Loved Revenant from start to end! It has a beautiful setting with a colorful cast of characters, each one passionately voice acted. Graphics are excellent for their date with a perfectly fitting soundtrack. The story, while predictable, is mature, great and engaging thanks to Locke's barbaric personality and crude humor. About the gameplay: it features character progression up to level 30, letting you focus on might, magic or a mix of both (health and fatigue regeneration are very useful!) lots of different weapons, armor sets, combo attacks and magic spells to fight the many enemies that will stand in your way. Everything a D&D fan would expect is also here: lots of dungeon crawling, traps and treasures waiting to be plundered!

GOG version working fine on Windows 10

This is going to be a two-parter. At first, the game was not working for me on Windows 10, but I realized that I had an older (not up-to-date) GOG version installed. So let me start by speaking of the current GOG version of the game, which I just installed: The game is starting and working fine for me on Windows 10. It appears that the current GOG version includes some in-game updates, such as now showing a menu (including an option to exit the game) when the Esc key is pressed. Other than that, the executable file also has been set to compatibility mode with Windows 95. In regard to the older (not up-to-date) GOG version that was previously installed on my PC, at first the game would not start up. Then after I changed the compatibility mode of the executable file to Windows 98/Windows Me, the game did start up. However, the mouse cursor was not showing. Then based on a tip from the Revenant GOG forum, I created a shortcut from the Revenant .exe file, went to Properties of the shortcut, and added FASTLOCK=OFF at the end of the Target line. After doing this, the game both started up and showed the mouse cursor. Again though, I initially was trying to run an older (not up-to-date) GOG version of the game. In regard to the current GOG version, the game is working just fine for me on Windows 10 and shows a menu when the Esc key is pressed in-game (whereas the previous, older GOG version I had installed at first did not display this functionality).
