Return of the Obra Dinn

Quick note: Highly recommend playing with a friend (if neither of you is a control freak). The Return of Obra Dinn makes you feel like a real detective going on context clues and using knowledge about the world. It's one of those games that's not addicting but is so good you can't help thinking about it offline as you piece together the puzzle of the ship. Usually when playing a new game, I've already played a game like it and can compare. TROOD on the other hand stands completely apart. For avid gamers it gives you that treasured 'first time' feeling (like playing ocarina of time did for me as a kid). For beginners, the mechanics are simple enough to understand and enjoyable even if you don't know the common language of video games.

Nothing looks or feels like this game by Lucas Pope. The aesthetic has a beautiful grain, a perfectly crafted look that matches perfectly the seafaring adventure that tells its story in reverse. The mechanics are perfect - simple to use and a joy to play. It is a gaming treat from start to finish.

It's hard to describe what a wonderful experience this game is. It's unique but intuitive, cerebral but not convoluted, rich and yet streamlined and contained, with an interesting story that keeps you at a slight distance all the time, making you constantly engaged. And all this made by one guy. This is just such a great indie development accomplishment, that i'd encourage everyone to try it out. Get in knowing as little as possible - you won't be disappointed.

I have been playing computer games for 40 years now, and this is a truly unique and gripping experience. I can only hope that my memory eventually fades so I can experience that game again.

I must admit I was a bit sceptical at first, given the game's different graphics and gameplay. I love story driven games, but I am more of an RPG kind of guy. However I took a gamble when this game went on sale and boy do I wish I had it full price. I won't spoil things for you, but this game will have you griped and hooked in seconds and you will be desperate to understand what was teh fate of obra dim. Buy it now!
