Resonance is a joint effort between Wadjet Eye and xii games. It's been five years in the making, and it's without-a-doubt their longest and most ambitious game to date. This gem is made by gamers for gamers, and you can clearly see that in almost every element of the game. From the polished and intuitive interface, through well balanced puzzles, all the way to the fun and gripping story, you can tell that xii games knows how to get the job done right. So if you are an old-school adventure game fan then this game should scratch all the old-skool gaming itches you’ve been feeling while delighting you with its innovations and story.
Twisting and riveting storyline that you experience from four different perspectives as freely swap between all the main characters to solve puzzles and progress through the game.
Unique long-term and short-term memory system that creates new possibilities to solve puzzles and uncover mysteries.
Intuitive interface makes for one of the best adventure gaming experiences you’ll get.
All the love and care you’ve come to expect from the developer of such classics as Gemini Rue and the Blackwell series.
The groupe mechanic in this game is interesting at best. Most of the time it plays out as frustration - as does the interface. The puzzles themselves are nothing less than cumbersome and annoying, and have no doubt pushed many people away from the game in the early stages.
My advice: pick it up cheap, or if you've survived plenty of much older point and click adventures.
Very painful interface with hovers getting in the picture every time, not possible to TAB between characters, not possible to speed up the walking (or double click to get out of location), hard puzzles feel not more exciting but more frustrating. I would definitely agree that it is overrated.
Timed puzzles, pixel hunting and repeating actions are not cool for me. I like Blackwell and Unavowed from the same developers, but not this game. Unfortunately.
The story is not really interesting until the very end. The characters are relatable, but there is a stupid twist at the end, which didn't make any sense. The gameplay is awful. I really hated it. It's a drag and drop interface which takes a lot of time and is tedious. You control 4 characters and they can swap objects. They have to be physically present to do this which is realistic but annoying. DOT already had that and was much older....
Some of the puzzles are really hard and make no sense.
It's not fully voiced, The dialogue is good but the thoughts aren't voiced.
All in all....only buy when it's on sale.
The game has a few good moments, with a few interesting puzzles. However, the mechanics with four characters and puzzles expecting you to use an specific character in an specific location and to use that one specific short memory thing you forgot to pick two screens from where you are (and that happens more than once) makes the game more frustrating than fun. I guess even the developers got tired of the four character mechanics, because at some point you end up with only two, and they are kinda interchangeable and then the game starts flowing much better.
The story is a cheesy 80's detective sci-fi , not the deep themes WadjetEye usually makes. It's there, but don't expect anything close to Blackwell here. The game is not bad, but the frustation takes over the fun. Has its moments, though. However, I'd still buy if you are a fan of the genre and wants to support WadjetEye releases.
