The Ultimate Speed Racer
Redout offers an experience no other racing game I've ever played does. I mean their tagline is "Race faster than ever" - and that's EXACTLY what this game delivers! Even GRIP feels rather slow in comparison. Some reviews criticize it for being too hard but I don't think that's fair. Sure, it is pretty challenging to handle the insane speeds but it is by no means impossible (and it's so damn rewarding when you start to get the hang of it!). Here are two simple tips which can drastically improve your performance (and consequently, enjoyment of the game): 1) Disable the Motion Blur! You'll need surgical precision in some corners which is almost impossible to achieve with motion blur on. 2) Master the strafing. If you're hitting the walls all the time it's most likely because you don't use strafing or you're using it wrong. Seriously, take some time to understand how it works (preferably in Quick Race - Time Trial mode so that you don't get distracted by your opponents) and how to use it in conjuction with regular turning and you'll be amazed how tight corners you can blaze through without even slowing down. It took me some time to understand this too but now I'm completely in love with the mechanics. PROS: - It makes you feel like flying - Perfectly fitting soundtrack with dynamic filters which react to your speed, being airborne/underwater etc. - A LOT of beautifully designed tracks + very long career mode - Nice hovercraft design CONS: - Not so many hovercraft types, with some of them being almost useless in certain events, especially in career mode - Only a few actually usable powerups (don't even bother with anything "combat" focused) - Due to the insane speeds it is quite rare to go toe to toe with you opponents - overtaking is so fast that you often don't even notice what hovercraft are they flying - so there's only little interaction with them (hence the offensive powerups being largely inferior to the ones which just help you go faster or repair yourself)
