Description

The story of Raji: An Ancient Epic begins with the start of a new war between the demons and the gods. Seeking to avenge their defeat in the last great war from a thousand years ago, the demons have challenged the gods who humiliated them and have invaded the human realm, threatening them with extinction.
Thinking that their enemies had been utterly defeated in the last great war, a thousand years ago, the humans had fallen into a false sense of security, forgetting the ways of alchemy, while enjoying the peace. Unable to defend themselves, cities and fortresses fell, leaving the humans at the mercy of the demons.
Amidst the chaos, as cities and fortresses fell, and as young children were abducted from their homes, a young girl named Raji is chosen by the gods to be the sole defender of the human race.

A Story of Siblings

Experience a story of siblings. Raji and Golu are sister and brother who have been separated by the attacking demonic hordes and now find themselves in the middle of the great war.
Raji has taken it upon herself to find her brother and put an end to this reckless war. However, this can only happen if she manages to break down the might and stratagem devised by the great lord of demons, Mahabalasura.

Stunning Artwork

Inspired by Indian mythologies such as Mahabharata and Ramayana, and by the medieval architecture of Rajasthan, Raji: An Ancient Epic brings a refreshing new style to the action-adventure scene!
Every corner of the game’s environment is drawn in the Pahari art style and combines hand-painted textures, rendered in 3D giving the Raji: An Ancient Epic a stunning and unique visual quality rarely seen in games.

Tactical Combat

Diverse weapons and powers, gifted to Raji by the gods, are at your disposal. Mastering them all will be vital to your success as the demonic hordes will skillfully adapt to each and every situation; while the Trishul may be perfect for one battle, the mighty Sharanga bow may be needed for the next.

A Universe Set in Ancient India

For the very first time, experience a game set in ancient India and infused with Hindu and Balinese mythology. You will find yourself immersed in ancient India where every corner is begging to be explored.
From enchanting stories from the lore of the game to tightly packed battles against ferocious demons and bosses, ancient puzzles, massive forts and palaces, experience a sibling story who find themselves at the center of a divine war.

Something different

Raji is an Indian story that was made in Pune, India, by anIndian developer and is thus one thing above all: Authentic. From the refreshingly different artwork, the new take on a well known Indian tale, handmade Rajasthani music, the way the story is told using shadow play, correct references to Hindu mythology. Proper use of the correct names and symbols. If this is your first deep-dive into Hindu mythology, better strap in though for the game won't do much hand-holding as far as names and concepts are concerned and instead sends you deep down the rabbit hole. This is a fantasy world way beyond the beaten path. And if you decide to look up one or more characters mentioned you might catch a glimpse of how deep it actually is. It does feel to me like the developers poured heart and soul into their project. Likewise for gameplay, as Raji, the main character, controls well with mouse and keyboard. New mechanics are introduced step by step, the game eases players into every single aspect. Combat moves are easy to pick up, yet difficult to master. And finally, even though the game is not exactly on the lower end of the difficulty curve, it is fair. If you do die, there is not much backtracking from the last save point. All in all, the game is a lot of fun with the absolute highlight being the setting itself. My only issue with the game is the level design which - even though beautifully done - is more functional than memorable. The levels could have been more interesting with a little more variety and would have profited from some noticeable, more iconic locations. Still, if you are interested in Hindu mythology at all and enjoy action adventures as a genre, I do highly recommend the game. It is definitely worth it.

Very pretty... poor combat

Such a pretty game, very good story, but I really hated the combat. It is slow, it is sloppy, many controls like riding walls end up losing effect in battle... I think it needs improvement there. But for the rest, it is a nice new refreshing story, and worth the purchase

Lots of Heart

All and all, Raji is a game with lots of heart. Playing a game based around Hindu mythology was really refreshing and I found Raji's conviction very inspiring. The story and the characters were definitely the highlight for me. Now, the reason why I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 is because the controls could be a little clunky. There are many weapons and acrobatic techniques you can use to progress through the game and, while it was nice to practice them, I found many of them hard to use in battle. Enemies can QUICKLY overwhelm you and it wasn't until the end when you got a ~certain power-up~ that I felt like I had some control. Until then, I was literally just fighting for my life lol. What it comes down to is that the controls take some getting used to, but certainly I was able to make it to the end of the game with all of that being said. I also will say that an enhanced edition IS coming very soon, so I imagine that patch may tighten up a few of the control-related things and offer easier modes as this game is on the more challenging side. Not impossible or even brutal, but def a challenge. But, all and all, it was an enjoyable experience that I would recommend to anyone looking to explore Hindu mythology and also embody a type of protagonist/story that is woefully underrepresented in gaming <3

Bold Debut, Unique Setting

Kudos to the developer for a bold debut effort, and I hope to see much more from them in the future! If you like the Indian setting or Hindu mythology I would get the game full-stop, this is one of very few games that explore this setting. Here are my caveats: I see a lot of positive reviews here and on other platforms, particularly praising the inclusion of historic Hindu mythological stories. I think it would have been powerful if the game was tying the plot directly or metaphorically to these mythological stories, but as far as I could see there was no real connection. This may be a failure of my own understanding of the mythology, or may be because the plot is overall weak. But one way or the other the game left me feeling like a tourist, looking at these religious stories packaged out of context and for my entertainment. Also like others have said, the controls are not the easiest, and there is no option to turn down the difficulty level. As someone who is not a pro at this gaming syle, there were a few sections that I 'rage-quit' before finding the motivation to continue (including physically, in terms of the number of button presses in a row you have to make repeatedly on the controller). But it worked out eventually.

A Gorgeous Prince of Persia-esque Game

If you like action/adventure games that are gorgeous, present a unique atmosphere (in this case, Indian folklore and mythology), and let you run and jump all over the place while tearing up baddies with cool weapons, then you can't go wrong with Raji. I loved the entire experience, and can't recommend it enough.
