Solid adventure game

Enjoyed the game pretty much and was surprised to learn that it was developed by a small team and funded via Kikstarter. Good job! The game has an intriguing plot, extremely good voices and charming graphics. I very liked that you can choose one of the three professions so I finished the game three times by playing for Brigand, Rogue, and Sorcerer. It was really cool to be able to handle the same situation very differently. However, I award only four stars for several reasons. First, the combat is rather unbalanced and quickly becomes a nuisance rather than a challenge. The character quickly becomes too strong and I never used healing potions even when I played for sorcerer. Even more, I ended up just running all the time to avoid combat and to concentrate on the main quest. Second, the same is with the economy - money are plentiful and are not an issue as rewards for quests are substantial. If you play for rogue and rob the bank, you will get even more money than you can spend (50,000 if you are asking). Third, there is some overall incompleteness in the game as many characters stop providing you with new information and interaction opportunities after the first few days. The Act II is short and Act III even shorter and I had a feeling that the developers were running low on funds and just wanted to finish the game. Overall, still a very good and entertaining game. Hope to see more games from the same team.

Linux version still unwinnable

There's a bug in the Linux version that causes you to instantly die at the end of act 1. This bug was first reported more than five years ago, and it still hasn't been fixed. Since only about half of the game is actually playable, I have halved my rating for this game.

A good, classic, fantasy adventure

I bought Quest for Infamy together with several other Quest for Glory inspired games but I left it on my digital shelf for a long while, mostly because I was a bit put off by the pretext of being a villainous character and the way the introduction leads one to think it is a game with an outdated portrayal of female characters. Rest assured though, that the game doesn't really do anything with that - that main character is sort of an anti-hero, but always with his heart in the right place, and confronted with the main villains of the piece, there is never any doubt that you as a player is the good guy. The game is a great fantasy romp, set in a large beautifully hand-drawn area with plenty of different environments to explore, ranging from forests and grasslands, to swamps, beaches and mountains. There is a few classic adventure game puzzles, but mostly the games challenges are solvable by exploring the area and talking to the various NPCs. There is often many different solutions, and often you can role-play your character a bit with your choice of how to approach the challenges. All in all, a good game, well worth your time!

Enoyable but Buggy

Very enjoyable old school Quest for Glory clone with dark humor. However, very buggy so can't give more than 5 stars. Plus fights are boring and repetitive.

So You Want To Be A Badass?

Okay, to start off, I'm not really a fan of the original series. In fact, I never liked the multiple deaths with snarky commentaries, the kind of "bizarre" humor for my senses, as well as some of that predictable blatancy where characters could die of starvation or exhaustion "just because". But as the series went on, some things got considerable story-wise improvement over the first installment, and QFG IV: Shadows of Darkness was actually as close it could get to my liking as any (as in, I could overlook all of the above while playing that game). After reading some of the other reviews here I have to admit that were I the real hardcore fan of the WHOLE series, I'd probably have given it a two. Sorry. But there is an absolute agreement I can't argue on, being that the supposed hero seems to have a personality of his own, therefore making all of his "yes"s and "no"s futile. I mean, there's no progression. He just pops up there and bam!, he has a story (plus, not a really interesting one too in my opinion). Then, that guy looks like he was ripped from the recent Game of Thrones title, with some Hollywood'ey appeal and quirk. The rest of the characters are just too bland and not even worth talking about. But my main problem with this game was that nothing was really going on. At the beginning, everybody talks about some "execution". That's it. Then they all don't. It's like that Volksville place is just ran by a bunch of puppets with the sheriff What's-his-name being their master. Compare that to Shadows, where as soon as you get to Mordavia, you realize that the townfolk are not only all different, but also each have serious personal accounts to settle, which is of course your task because YOU are that catalyst. YOU are the hero. That quest had a meaning. This one... simply feels like it's up for some 256-colored mischief (urinating in flower pots included). This game is definitely not worth buying, but demo may be worth a try if you miss the old series. I don't.
