Best game ever! But too bad, this package is not working. Maybe it's my system. It quits with a message that "GLQuake.exe is not responding". The DosBOX version works, but is slow.... It's not a big problem if you know how to play it with a port. QuakeSpasm for example. Just copy the ID, Hipnotic and the Rogue folder to QuakeSpasm folder. Start QuakeSpasm to start normal Quake. Make a shortcut with -game hipnotic and another one with -game rogue to start the mission packs. If you want to play Quake and the MP's in ultra high detail. Regarding the recent Quake 25th anniversary free update developed by Nightdive Studios, recently released on Steam. The GOG staff has contacted the game's publisher, Bethesda Softworks, and they CONFIRMED that we GOG consumers WILL receive the enhanced update. Both previous and new buyers WILL receive the update for FREE. As of the writing of this review, August, 21, 2021, 00:34 BRT (Brasilia Time), the publisher HAS NOT specified any date of WHEN it will be released here, but in MY PERSONAL OPINION, it shouldn't take too long. I had this game when it first came out and had countless hours of fun playing this. The GOG release is pretty good, but kind of annoying you have to figure out how to get it working properly. Dunno if it was because they were having copyright issues with the soundtrack or what. Bonkers that it doesn't work from initial installation. 1/Go to game installation folder and run nglide_config 2/Whack res up to whatever you desire 3/Rename _winmm.dll to winmm.dll 4/Copy OGG files to the MUSIC directory from this zip: https://www.quaddicted.com/files/music/quake_campaign_soundtrack.zip Launch game as normal and it should be running just fine. It's Quake. It's pretty good. But it's not the latest version of the game, this is the only store where that's the case, and you might not know it without being told. Quake on every other platform got updated to the Enhanced Edition. GOG explicitly stated it would be updated here too. That was close to a year ago. They've ignored everyone requesting a follow-up statement.

Bethesda partnered up with NightDive to release an Enhanced Edition of Quake. The enhancements include (but are not limited to): - a working multiplayer mode (plus co-op, plus bots - tied to Bethesda.net) - a soundtrack that works out of the box - overhauled graphics - two additional expansion packs, including a brand new one - add ons (again tied to Bethesda.net) If none of these are to your liking, you still can play the original. No matter how you look at it, it's a vastly superior version. Gog staffer SmollestLight was quick to announce that it's coming to gog and the gog version is being "finalised". That was in August 2021... Whenever someone contacted Bethesda or NightDive for clarification, the answer was ALWAYS: "You should ask gog, they made that announcement. We know nothing about a gog version." gog buyers are being treated like ping pong balls by the various parties: gog points to Beth/ND. ND points to gog and Beth. Beth points to ND and gog. None of them want to own up and take responsibility for a situation they created. Instead of playing a cringe-inducing blame game, there would've been ways to try to remedy this: ND or Beth could have the decency to go "Let's do the right thing here and at least toss them a singleplayer-only version and maybe drop the base price by a few dollars to make up for the missing multiplayer!" Instead both of them go "Huhuhuh, ask gog!" along with a shrug emoji. I wouldn't be surprised if gog indeed made up the "it's coming and it's being finalised!" statement as damage control (it's not like their PR crew haven't made up stuff before - "many gamers", anyone?). But that doesn't make Beth/ND's behaviour any less disgraceful. gog should ask permission to drop the base price to $5.99 and restore the initial build that was pulled almost immediately after release, as it conveniently featured the soundtrack as ogg files, but that also hasn't happened. 5 stars for the game, 0 stars for the mistreatment of paying customers.
