A Likeable Grind Fest With Some Bugs
The game is a Rocky pastiche (really, it revels in it) that also borrows bits of pieces from other works of the 80s and 90s. The story is very tongue in cheek and lacks depth. The fighting dynamics of the game are cool to watch and you'll have plenty of control to shape your fighter in several possible directions. Picking an upgrade path for your fighter, watching him fight and adjust the course when he fails is really the heart of the game. However, the grinding in this game is not cool. You'll get treated to "Rocky: The lean years" for about 3/4 of the game and you'll have to balance working a job, eating, resting, training your stats and honing your fighting skills. You'll get tired, you'll get hungry, your stats will decrease each day so you'll have to prop them back up with exercise on various equipment daily and at various parts of the game, your perks tree progression will slow down to a grind as you'll get little or no progression points in a lot of fights. Seriously, they could have skimmed on the grinding, made the game 50% shorter and it would have been a lot more enjoyable. Beyond that, the game suffers from a couple of bugs (in the Linux build anyways). Nothing show-stopping, but the game did crash occasionally. Overall, I think the core of the game (ie, actual fighting with skill progression) shines and it is worth playing for a bit to experience the fun part, but finishing it should be considered optional. I've finished it and can tell you that the story payout is not that great and the grind is long, so don't feel bad about dropping it 50% of the way through once you're enjoyed what this game is about. You won't miss much.
