Description
Project Zomboid is an open-ended zombie-infested sandbox. It asks one simple question – how will you die?

In the towns of Muldraugh and West Point, survivors must loot houses, build defences and do their utmost to delay their inevitable death day by day. No help is coming – their continued survival relies on their own cunning, luck and ability to evade a relentless horde.

- Hardcore Sandbox Zombie Survival Game with a focus on realistic survival.
- Online multiplayer survival with persistent player run servers.
- Local 4 player split-screen co-op
- Hundreds of zombies with swarm mechanics and in-depth visual and hearing systems.
- Full line of sight system and real-time lighting, sound and visibility mechanics.
- Hide in the shadows, keep quiet and keep the lights off at night, or at least hang - sheets over the windows.
- Vast and growing map (loosely based on a real world location) for you to explore, loot and set up your fortress. Check out Blindcoder’s map project: http://pzmap.crash-override.net/
- Use tools and items to craft weapons, barricade and cook. You can even build zombie proof forts by chopping trees, sawing wood and scavenging supplies.
- Deal with depression, boredom, hunger, thirst and illness while trying to survive.
- Day turns to night. The electricity falters. Hordes migrate. Winter draws in. Nature gradually starts to take over.
- Farming, trapping, fishing, carpentry, cooking, trapping, character customization, skills and perks that develop based on what you do in-game.
- Proper zombies that don’t run. (Unless you tell them to in the sandbox menu).

Excellent bang for the buck

Quickest summary: Isometric twin-shooter zombie survival and crafting game. Better summary: "This is how you die" isn't a joke. Death will take you and often when you least expect it. Maybe you're just rummaging around in a kitchen and suddenly the five zombies you accidentally alerted will swarm you from behind. Maybe you drive too recklessly and destroy your car, crippling yourself and making escape impossible. Maybe you play too late into the night and fall asleep at your computer while making soup out of dead mice and old bread and burn your house down with you in it. PZ lets you customize your play to your liking with detailed game settings in Sandbox, scenarios, mods, and as many or more options as I've seen in any other game. If you're looking for a brutal apocalypse that you're lucky to survive for a week, you can have that. If you're looking for a sim where you set a more casual pace and explore the world, you can do that too. Crank up the zombie spawns, make them all runners, shut off zombie spawns entirely and try to clear out areas, or set it so you only die if you get bleed out. Lots of drivable cars everywhere? Nothing but broken-down wrecks? No problem. PZ is all about you defining what you find fun and going with it. The risk vs. reward vs. repetition is entirely up to you. You don't have to be a hermit farming in a remote wilderness. You could take over five city blocks and defend them. You could be a pillaging nomad that never settles down. When you die you could run back to your base and collect all your spare gear and just keep going with a new character - or you could roll up a new survivor in a new world and try to beat your own personal record for surviving. I've been playing this game off and on for over three years and it continues to get better.

My best game purchase ever

Best Zombie/Survival/Crafting game I have played - period. It's the ultimate, "how would I try and survive in a Zombie Apocalypse?" game. The amount of tweakable options is amazing, make it as hard, or as easy as you want. I've got well over 500 hours invested in the Steam version of this, and many more before it even made it to Steam. I've seen some criticism regarding the speed of development, but so what? It's immensely playable right now, and they are still working on it. The Devs are some of the best I have seen and actually care about their product. Hell, they could've just slapped a "1.0 complete" sticker on it and walked away, as many other developers have, (including AAA titles!), but they haven't. Visit the forums, you'll see that the Devs are constantly involved with the community. Watch some "Let's play" on YouTube, and it will give you an idea of how truly brilliant this title is.

Try Easy first, then Survival

Been playing this since it came to GOG, where I bought it on the first day. Started in Easy mode, got killed twice and restarted, eventually started figuring out the mechanics of the game, by which time it became more of a case of settling down for a quiet farming life, huge stores of long-duration food and dealing with the odd zombie popping up once in a while (since I had cleared most zombies around my base). It was all starting to feel a bit meeuwh ... So I started a game in Survival mode, which the game description says it's how it's supposed to be played. Now I'm scared most of the time, constantly looking behind myself when outside and fearing a zombie invasion of my base, with several close calls within 2 game days, grabbing anything I can get my hands on since there are far fewer supplies and weapons to be found in houses and really working my brain on planning how to safely explore further to find the proper weapons and tools I need as well as preparing for upcoming major game events. I love it! I strongly suggest people start in Easy Mode to get to grips with the way the game works and then move on to Survival when they're ready for the proper Zombie Apocalypse experience. It's amazing how, for a simple looking isomeric view game, it's hugely immersive, even in Easy Mode. I'm surprise it's still in development given that it has quite a lot of depth and quite a lot of map to explore and I haven't spotted any major bugs yet. Apparently the developers have some big ideas they want to implement before they feel the game is finished. Recommended!

IMHO the best zombie survival game

I'm going to keep this review short: 1. I have spent more than 1000 hours playing this game. 2. I don't regret it.

aww yeah

This game so good i bought it twice already,, originally purchased on steam to check it out,, then realised gog had it so now its installed on all 4 of my pc's used the 1 PC to host an online server the other 3 for me and the kids to play our characters,, and even had 5-10 random people online playing on my very own server all for 20$ ( you can also split screen on the same system but i prefer having the whole screen to myself <3) the game itself is incredibly in depth and brutal typically starting out the first few ingame weeks with power and water still active, after that survival becomes much more difficult, its definitely worth checking out in my opinion
