Description
Project Wingman is a combat flight action game with an emphasis on polished and refined gameplay, true-to-its-roots inspirations, and an engaging single player experience. Perfect for those who aren't looking for a simulator experience, with the ease of pick up and play, all the way to those who want a fast-paced challenging flight action game.

Dogfight, strike, and fly through combat zones based off an alternate history of Earth. Either over the cold waters of the Bering Strait, attacking tanks in the brutal environments of Yellowstone magma fields, or diving through the Redwoods to strike targets of opportunity in the Pacific Northwest, across the oceans, above the scarred lands of the world, this war will take you from exotic battlefield to exotic battlefield, all while going up against odds way above your pay grade.

Pure Combat Flight Action
Exotic weaponries such as railguns and geothermal-powered armaments will be ready to pluck you out of the sky if you're careless. Whether you are an attack aircraft pilot, skimming the ground with a gatling gun and rocket launchers attached to your wing, or an interceptor with long range, almost sniper-like missiles at your disposal, it will be up to you to prove yourself as an Ace pilot.

Conquest Mode
In Conquest Mode, fight in an uphill battle against various bosses and ace squadrons in a territory capture game, drawing elements from roguelikes and RPGs. Players will have to earn enough money to not only purchase new aircraft, but build a mercenary army of their own in order to take on waves of increasingly difficult opposition as they struggle to take on a myriad of changing missions.

Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality headsets will work in-game to put the player in the cockpit of aerial warfare, immersing themselves in head-swiveling combat. Combine this with full compatibility with HOTAS peripherals and custom axis curves, and you will be able to experience the game however you want, using any DirectInput supported peripheral you like.

Key Features:

  • Fly in varied and exciting scenarios and locations unlike you've ever seen before
  • Engaging single player campaign
  • Over 20 different aircraft and over 40 unique weapons at your disposal
  • Fight different kinds of adversaries such as giant mechanized fortresses and railgun cannons
  • Test your skills in Conquest mode and fight against hordes of adversaries
  • Want a different Conquest experience? - Adjust it with modifiers to your liking
  • Beautiful 3D Volumetric clouds rendered with TrueSKY
  • Fully rebindable controls and HOTAS compatibility with DirectInput support

Ace combat done better than Namco does

This is the ace combat you've always loved. Same controls as the ps2. Xbox wireless controls work right away. Unlike ace combat try flying as high as you can and see if you can see space....go on try it:)

A love letter to the PS2-era Ace Combat games.

Project Wingman takes a lot of inspiration from the Playstation 2 ace combat games (especially Ace Combat Zero) and improves upon the foundation laid by the Ace Combat series in several ways. The game is a joy to play, and the dogfighting mechanics work great. There's also a pretty good selection of aircraft and weapons, allowing the player to choose multiple different ways of approaching a mission. Unfortunately, the game also copies some of the bad parts from the PS2 Ace Combat games as well, and this is the reason why I'm not giving this game 5 stars. There are no mid-mission checkpoints, which means that if you die at the very end of a mission, you will have to play it from the start. Since some missions can take well over 30 minutes to complete, the lack of checkpoints can make accomplishing said missions quite tiresome in case you die. Also, for some reason, you can't target planes parked on the ground with air-to-ground missiles and must use instead air-to-air missiles that are focused on destroying flying targets. The Ace Combat series also has this same issue, and for some bizarre reason, Project Wingman decided to copy this same issue froe the AC series.

good fun shooter

a fun straight forward shooter. good graphics, good voice acting.. easy to get started with. i play with an old playstation gamepad, works fine. If you are looking for deep gameplay or real flight mechanics, this isnt it.. but if you're looking for a fun shooter.. give it a spin.

Great AC game with its own twists

Great gameplay, great soundtrack, just wonderful. There are a few nitpicky pieces, in regards to tutorials and user experience. It pretty much assumes you have already played an Ace Combat game before, though perhaps thats fair given its target market. Project Wingman does a few things better than AC does: - Flight models for planes feel noticably different from each other, which I had not really experienced much in AC. Most planes don't feel like a straight level up, mobility wise. - More powerful guns/gun pods. Theres more of a focus on these and they do much more damage. It's incredibly statisfying to strafe larger enemies. - Allies feel like they are actually contributing to the battles - Flying warships make a more regular appearance as standard enemies and units rather than just bosses. For the sticker price of less than half of AC7 this game really does a lot. Hopefully the dev team continue to tidy and polish this a bit and make it even better. Well worth the money as it stands though.

A gem in the rough.

There are three types of people, those who have completed one or more Ace Combat style games, those who haven't and those who play sims. One group will understand what Project Wingman (PW) is all about and will fall in love with it, warts and all. This game has made me do what no other has in the past thirty years or so... re-play it on the higher difficulties. And in quick order too. This game has its flaws, but if you are anything like me then you may find that the enjoyment on offer will more than mask most of the flaws to the point of not even noticing them. The next group's exposure to Ace Combat is at best limited to just knowing that it exists. They may end up being more critical of PW's design choices... like the lack of checkpoints. The lack of checkpoints, to me is not an issue. Some reviews mention overly long missions. I say that they don't feel long enough, especially when you pick a suitable plane and loadout for the mission at hand. Then there's the sim group, who usually end up harping on about the game's physics. PW is all about fighting to get your sights on the target while dodging dozens of missiles simultaneously while constantly riding your plane's stall speed. Contrary to some comments, I HAVE seen my AI allies take down aces... and airships and plenty planes and ground targets. This game is far from perfect... the devs say as much in their post credits messages. PW's dev team is three people, not counting the voice tallent. Let that sink in. One designer/artist/programmer, one writer/producer and one composer. Oh, yes, that reminds me. You buy this game and I guarantee that you will end up buying the soundtrack. PW's configurability is extensive and from first launch it detected my homebrewed HID compliant joystick with no problem. Some people with various expensive HOTAS setups report problems, others with the exact same hardware report no issues.
