Description
Project Wingman is a combat flight action game with an emphasis on polished and refined gameplay, true-to-its-roots inspirations, and an engaging single player experience. Perfect for those who aren't looking for a simulator experience, with the ease of pick up and play, all the way to those who want a fast-paced challenging flight action game.

Dogfight, strike, and fly through combat zones based off an alternate history of Earth. Either over the cold waters of the Bering Strait, attacking tanks in the brutal environments of Yellowstone magma fields, or diving through the Redwoods to strike targets of opportunity in the Pacific Northwest, across the oceans, above the scarred lands of the world, this war will take you from exotic battlefield to exotic battlefield, all while going up against odds way above your pay grade.

Pure Combat Flight Action
Exotic weaponries such as railguns and geothermal-powered armaments will be ready to pluck you out of the sky if you're careless. Whether you are an attack aircraft pilot, skimming the ground with a gatling gun and rocket launchers attached to your wing, or an interceptor with long range, almost sniper-like missiles at your disposal, it will be up to you to prove yourself as an Ace pilot.

Conquest Mode
In Conquest Mode, fight in an uphill battle against various bosses and ace squadrons in a territory capture game, drawing elements from roguelikes and RPGs. Players will have to earn enough money to not only purchase new aircraft, but build a mercenary army of their own in order to take on waves of increasingly difficult opposition as they struggle to take on a myriad of changing missions.

Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality headsets will work in-game to put the player in the cockpit of aerial warfare, immersing themselves in head-swiveling combat. Combine this with full compatibility with HOTAS peripherals and custom axis curves, and you will be able to experience the game however you want, using any DirectInput supported peripheral you like.

Key Features:

  • Fly in varied and exciting scenarios and locations unlike you've ever seen before
  • Engaging single player campaign
  • Over 20 different aircraft and over 40 unique weapons at your disposal
  • Fight different kinds of adversaries such as giant mechanized fortresses and railgun cannons
  • Test your skills in Conquest mode and fight against hordes of adversaries
  • Want a different Conquest experience? - Adjust it with modifiers to your liking
  • Beautiful 3D Volumetric clouds rendered with TrueSKY
  • Fully rebindable controls and HOTAS compatibility with DirectInput support
  • VR Support

Alright

Pros: Keyboard controls are pretty good Graphics are better than Ace Combat 7 (I have yet to see a pop in texture) Large varity of planes to use Ace dog fights are proper fights (Hard but not impossible) Story mode (Story mode is not all that interesting, but at least it has one) Conquest mode (Pretty fun, when you just want to shoot down everything and the kitchen sink) Control support (For me, I had to use a 3rd party program to get my controller to work) Has VR support Cons: No Checkpoints (Get shot down, crash into ground/plane/mountain, or shoot down a non combatant you are put in the game over screen and only have retry or quit to menu options availible; Retry will result in starting the entire level over, no getting back into combat with an Ace) Level design (Sometimes you have to Luke Skywalker some objectives) Enemy (Enemy reaction is poor, they do not react to friendlies being shot down, or do not try to engage you when you are chasing) Allies (Hardly take down anything on their own, does not feel like they do anything impactful, during Ace dog fights it is usually you versus everyone) Changes I recommend (Might change my review if they are ever implimented) Checkpoints (For after completing 1st objective and have to shift into fighting Aces) (Highly Recommend Add Dog fight mode (For people that just want to have a dog fight with Aces from the Story mode) (Highly Recommend) Enemy react to fallen enemy allies being shot down Allies being able to go toe to toe with enemy Aces (So instead of feeling like a 1v8 it can feel like a 4v4) Allies can do maneuvers like the bait and switch (Have enemy chase them and have you shoot down the enemy) (Put it on a cool down if this would become an issue) In the end I highly recommend this game I still would like to have this game make these changes to make the game even better and allow me to change my review.

Game designer's who waste your time.

NO CHECKPOINTS! Do not design hour + long missions without check points, especially if your AWACS controller is going to be ridiculous slow in identifying threat. Create a mode with no checkpoint for people that do not have a premium on there time or create shorter missions with lower missile counts. Creating a game in the vein of Ace Combat is fine, but ACE Combat is better, especially ACE Combat 7. This not because of the studio verses Independent developer resource issues, it's that the independent developer made purposeful decisions that reduces the convenience of the game and adds to the frustration. Poor mission briefings leave you only a passing idea of what you are supposed to be doing and far from what a real mission briefing would include. At it's core it is an ACE Combat knock off, but mission design, HUD interface, presentations of mechanics, and heads up tactical information in battle is inferior to those you would find in ACE Combat 7. Message timing in missions will have you end up getting killed as suddenly a message is flashed on your display and your controller rambles on with some story dialog instead of giving you concise instructions which then gets you killed and leaves you to play the often hour long mission again. It is one thing when the player gets killed through there own action, its another when your 'elite' mercenary support is slow on the draw, especially in a fast paced designed game. The shame of it is that the technical aspect of the game is good. Graphics are good, controls handle well, sound is good. It is in the mechanical choices that this game falls short especially when it is in direct competition with ACE Combat 7. My advice. Purchase ACE Combat 7 instead, and if you have finished that game, maybe pick up this game on sale if you want some more like it.

Nice graphics, but an arcade shoot'em.

I know, it's supposed to be an arcade game based off Ace Combat. Those that appreciate that style will not be disappointed. Well laid out and the graphics are very good. I am more of a simulator fan that wants more realism in the physics and aerodynamics. If you are of that similar type and like DCS World, Strike Fighters, IL2-Sturmovik, this is probably not to your liking. The fun for me is in the skill of maneuvering into position with real aerodynamics and the laws of physics. That's the challenge. In this game you push the throttle forward and you are supersonic constantly, pulling 30+ g's. I'm not trying to knock the game, I'm just trying to warn those that may care, that this is a pure arcade type, fast action blaster. Again, it's well made and fun, but when you've shoot your 100th missile while turning 37 g's, it gets old quickly. The skill level needed to fly and employ weapons is too simple to be entertaining to a hardcore sim fan.

Worse than Ace Combat

This is an ace combat clone but they do everything worse. Has only two games, campaign and conquest. No free flight and you have to unlock all planes just to use it. The UI is hot garbage and SLOW. Not intuitive or slim. Their goal appears to have been to make the game pretty, not functional. Its also quite boring. Loadout screen is confusing again with a focus on being pretty. Honestly its just very boring, not enough fast function I mean I want to fly right away in interesting maps and planes.
