Project Warlock is a first person shooter that fans of Doom, Hexen and Wolfenstein cannot miss. It serves you an exploding cocktail of bullets, spells and monsters. In Project Warlock you battle through 60 levels of non stop action packed with bloodthirsty enemies and challenging bosses. The game offers not just firepower, but perk-based character development, weapon upgrades and unlockable spells system. This high-quality independent gem is priced to appeal to fans of polished indie titles and seekers of classic fps experience alike.
Back in April 2018 hundreds of gamers had a chance to experience an early build of Project Warlock and gave their enthusiastic feedback. The following six months the Buckshot team, with it’s showrunner Jakub Cislo, spent on polishing the game to bring you the most complete and satisfying experience. The end result is something you can check for yourself.
Great monster design, yet boring ai, very poor map design and bad balance. On standard difficulty i end up using like one or two weapons of 10 i have by now, and i literally oneshot everything... very small badly designed, unimaginative maps kill the game. Pretty damn sad, since the weapons, monsters and some soundtracks are pretty cool.
Great graphics and sound. Gameplay is smooth. On Standard difficulty I had few deaths, none of which were cheap. Has a stat, skill, spell and weapon upgrade system. Took 6h20m to beat on Standard. Handcrafted mazelike 90s level design. Would have like coop multiplayer.
For a game that advertises itself as old school, I don't really get why there's an upgrade system / character stats and also I don't get why there's a life system that sends you back at the very beginning if depleted. The first boss practically killed me off and I noped out of the game. Not sure I want to lose more time with this one.
Game trailer looks amazing, gameplay is incredibly stale, feels like Spear of Destiny a bit too much. The levels are uninteresting, and the lack of a decent map is annoying on some of the maps.
Also, I dont know if it is me, but the final boss of the first episode, the giant wizard, 2 shots you through the walls....the only way I could even get to his second form was with melee attacks with Melee Spec but when you kill the second form he self destructs and you die...as you only have like 15hp left...its not balanced....lost all 6 of my lives and had to start all over again running the same boring, stale maps...no thanks.
Save your money and buy Ion Maiden, Dusk, or Amid Evil.
Here is the good things, it's a fine *** classic shooter style inpired by some masterpiece like Doom, Blood, Hexen with some perks and RPG elements in it. The Arsenals are awesome from axe, pistol, to BFG-alike and it's upgradable into more brutal weapons. The combat is way so satisfying, fast, brutal, and satisfying, even when you swipe your axe to kill some enemies it feels way too good. i never expect great level audio on an indie game like this but Project warlock is nailed it, the guns blazing sounds, the soundtrack, the destructions is great, except for the player voice that so low. There are plenty of enemies to destroy into pieces from small spider, zombie, big monster, huge demon, giant robot and BIG BAD BOSS. the enemy type and the environment is difference each episode, there is 5 episodes with 12 missions each, and both the enemy and the environment is nicely designed with unique artstyle. the game a bit hard for the first few mission especially because the game is a bit rogue-like on standard and Hardcore difficulty even the dev says it wasn't rogue-like but i fell a bit rogue-like in it. facial expressions is.. well.. good but too bad it's in left corner of the screen. Also nice easter-eggs and pop culture references.
Project Warlock is another satisfying "Run + Gun = Fun" even there is a few things that i hate about it but it's still a nice tribute to old-school shooter plus you got the soundtrack for free which is great and i highly recommend this game.
