Project Warlock is a first person shooter that fans of Doom, Hexen and Wolfenstein cannot miss. It serves you an exploding cocktail of bullets, spells and monsters. In Project Warlock you battle through 60 levels of non stop action packed with bloodthirsty enemies and challenging bosses. The game offers not just firepower, but perk-based character development, weapon upgrades and unlockable spells system. This high-quality independent gem is priced to appeal to fans of polished indie titles and seekers of classic fps experience alike.
Back in April 2018 hundreds of gamers had a chance to experience an early build of Project Warlock and gave their enthusiastic feedback. The following six months the Buckshot team, with it’s showrunner Jakub Cislo, spent on polishing the game to bring you the most complete and satisfying experience. The end result is something you can check for yourself.
Doom and Heretic have a baby; they should be proud.
Teaching it about triangles would have been great, but... well, sprites will do for now (i.e. nostalgia fed).
Looking forward to the next phase of its evolution.
I am not an avid FPS gamer by any means, but I loved this game. It is pretty simple in it's design. Levels are short, secrets mostly hidden behind walls. Guns are classic, but great. Magic is useful, but not necessary. And melee build is totally viable, but maybe a bit hard to hit bosses with.
As I said, I'm not a retro-fps guy, I hadn't clocked in hundreds of hours in Doom or something like that, but I beat PW on the first try, from start to finish on standart difficulty. Died maybe 6-7 times, starting on boss 3, but by the end of the game I had almost 15 lives left. Lives are found in secret areas and they are all over the place, just hug the walls, like Wolfenstein. So yeah, I had no problem with lives system or no quick saves. I mean, levels are like 5-10 minutes each, you don't need to save, you'll be ok.
Bottom line, this game is pretty fun and pretty cheap, so it's a great deal. Oh, and the music is great too, OST included.
This is game is awesome. The weapons are fun. The controls fluid. The graphics great. The only downsides are: losing map awareness. People not giving it enough credit.
Much as I hate Unity Engine, this game is a true gem! The gameplay is fast-paced and fun, the guns make you feel powerful, and the magic is... well, the magic is a take-or-leave, but it's still good to have. I also really enjoyed the secret hunting and the easter eggs. The army base level was just epic! Not because it's anything special from a design standpoint, but because of the new enemy reveal.
Why I say the game is _almost_ perfect? Well, for one, it's so good that I have to wonder if there'll be more (technically five 'episodes' and the defeat of the main boss means there shouldn't be, but who knows? Iron Fury is supposed to get an expansion in 2021 despite the main story being finished and allegedly tying directly into Bombshell). Second, I think we should have some ability to switch the weapon upgrades. For instance, I bought the fire upgrade for the double-barrel, and it ended up feeling weaker than the unmodded DB (in its defence, I must say that it was more of a 'get used to' and tactics thing, as I beat most of the later levels and episodes with it). Third, the final boss battle was a bit of an annoyance, mostly because I think beating the boss five times is a bit too much. But that's just me.
A serious issue I came across with the final boss battle by the way, was that the game "froze" during the boss-death cinematic: I could still hear the music and move the camera up and down, but that was it and I had to force-quit the game. It's not a major turn-off, my victory was still recognized by the game (not so much by GOG Galaxy -_-), but still, it's something to beware. If the dev is reading, maybe check it out? Otherwise, the game played without a hitch.
Anyway, I enjoyed the game, and I enjoyed it so much, I beat it in just two or three sittings! HIGHLY recommended to any fan of good FPS games.
