Description
Due to severe overpopulation, the planet Earth’s diameter is increasing with the growth of towering mega-cities, each inhabited by millions of humans. Buildings are growing ever-upwards, interconnected with a thick web of roads, walkways and service channels. In these giant human hives, only the affluent may feel the rays of the sun and breathe the cleaner air. Your team has been selected to go down and investigate problems at the Real Meat factory, in which all of the equipment has started to simultaneously malfunction. Technicians sent to repair the machinery have gone missing without explanation. The UPA's (Urban Protection Agency) orders are clear: prepare for the descent.

Project Eden is a 3D shooter with an emphasis on puzzle-solving. You'll lead a squad consisting of four UPA agents: Carter Dorlan, Andre Herderman, Minoko Molensky, and Amber Torrelson. Each operative has his or her own special ability that you'll need to master in order to progress. As Carter, use your knack for interrogation and nimble fingers to gain information and unlock doors. When you need something fixed and in a hurry, Andre is your man. Computer terminals are no match for Minoko's hacking talents. Last but not least, Amber can traverse hazardous environments with nary a scratch and she'll be your weapons expert. Brave the lowest strata and prepare to go through hell in Project Eden! If you're looking for some gritty cyberpunk-ish storytelling, challenging puzzles, and original gameplay (with optional drop-in, drop-out co-op), this is your game!

  • Lead 4 specialists in squad-based play into an abyss of vast caverns, snake-like tunnels, and derelict slums filled with cultists, gang-bangers, and mutants.
  • Morphing enemies will challenge you constantly, mutating as soon as you learn how to destroy them.
  • Descend into the darkness alone or with up to 3 friends in co-op multiplayer.

Withstands the test of time

Project Eden was the first new IP from the team that developed the first two Tomb Raider games, if I recall. Intriguing storyline (with a few quirks). Imagine a co-op Tomb Raider with optional 3rd/1st person, squad combat and skill-specific puzzles. At a time when first-person was all about head bobbing and fast movement, it was really refreshing to play in a first-person mode that moved according to the third-person rules. In single player there's a strategic element to placing uncontrolled units in good fire positions. The puzzle solving is great fun to figure out with the different characters' abilities and using the remote controlled vehicles to search hidden areas. All in all I think this game should have been an adventure classic, but for some reason never gained traction. The GoG version supports 1080p and the game looks better than ever. Only downside is that the dialogue gets out of sync with the characters in the plot sections. Oh and the line "that can't be a coincidence." You'll know it when you hear it...

Bladerunner esque puzzle platformer

Made by the same people that did the original tomb raider series, i played this originally on PlayStation2 as a co op with my friend. The sci fi landscape and the level by level descent into an old overrun and derelect city trully ramped up the tension as you tried to uncover the mystery behind the game The puzzle elements work very well and the level design is fantastic, the story however feels a little lacking especially the ending (no spoilers) but upto that point i thought it was great. the last level with the giant holodeck is how id like my fallout shelter to be if there was ever a nuclear war

Brilliant puzzles and level design.

I don't really like puzzle games too much, especially in older titles since they do not provide enough information and are awfully designed (I'm looking at you Tomb Raider). Eden Project does an amazing job of embedding the puzzles within the environment in a way that is very logical, which provides for a very enjoyable experience. It doesn't expect you to be a 180 IQ genius, nor does it expect you to be a moron. The puzzles can be tricky but not once does a switch/lever open a door that lies on the opposite side of the map and doesn't make any logical or physical sense (I'm looking at you AGAIN Tomb Raider...). The cyberpunk and industrial settings is the cherry on top of an otherwise expertly designed game. If you liked the aesthetics of Blade Runner you'll adore this game. The experience of descending into the depths of a mega-city has yet to be matched so far. I only found out about this game very recently when I was viewing random PS2 trailers, so this is by no means a nostalgic review. The only negative aspects are the AI and combat, but the atmosphere, puzzles and level design more than make up for it.

If the screen is black

If the screen is black, give it like 2-5 minutes. Then it will work.

A forgotten gem

Honestly i have to admit i totally forgot about this game until i saw it again here on gog, still i remember it was a game with a very solid design and mechanics, i had fun playing it, it was involving and considered it passed quite unacclaimed by the most (magazines at that time), i remember i was quite surprised by the overall quality of the product.
