Description
Awaken the merciless Warrior Within! Back from the brink of death the Prince has to face his most fearsome opponent yet. The mythical beast Dahaka won’t rest until our hero is dead. In his struggle for survival the Prince ventures onto the mysterious and foreboding Cursed Island, where he faces a horde of dark, demonic creatures. Fortunately, our hero isn’t the boyscout he used to be. With his newly found inner badassdom and a new arsenal of deadly weapons and fighting techniques, he’s ready for whatever danger he might encounter. Or is he?

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within builds a new layer of depth and complexity on the dynamic combat system of it’s predecessor, The Sands of Time. Freeform fighting mechanics combined with a wide range of swords, axes, maces and even improvised weapons will allow you to slay your foes with style!
  • The Prince is back in his darker, brutish incarnation.
  • Special moves and ranged attacks in a new, dynamic combat system.
  • Environments to bedazzle your eyes and puzzles to strain your mind.

A darker Sands of Time

You'll encounter a lot of review stating that this game is overly brutal, unnecessarily darker and lost its charm it had in Sands of Time. Consider this: the Prince is bound to fight for his very life, after his "sacrifice" in the previous game (I'm not gonna' spoil things, buy SoT too!). The reward? Having your entire ship crew slaughtered, and a huge, invincible beast chasing you. It is quite understandable that it pushed him to the "dark side". All in all: apart of the bugs, the steep learning curve (you can easily die on the very first level's 1st boss-fight), and some camera problem it is an excellent game with adrenaline pumping combat and a good amount of puzzles to be solved.

Edgy, edgy boi

Just off the bat, the game felt like a chore to play. The simple yet functional controls where butchered to make way for the horrible abortion that is the control scheme for this game. The main hand- "left mouse button", offhand- "E"? Who was the ape that felt like that was a good idea? Any attempt to change the controls so that it can be used by an actual human is limited since this game was one of the pioneers of the "one button to rule them all" game design. Warrior Within has " "gamepad support" - as in broken controls. So no, the gameplay is in no way an "improvement". Just because you cram more stuff inside, does not make something better. Remember the worst two parts in the first game? The battle with your father and the final boss? Now imagine that boring combat cycle repeating itself over and over. This is what this game feels like. The setting is bland and attempts to "get hip with the kids". Making everyone an unlikable bellend and make them utter "naughty words". The music was pure cancer when the game originally came out and it has gone worse with age. Only brainlets that enjoy crap like Hollywood Undead and Limp Bizkit can find any enjoyment in this auditory torture. The setting itself is brown and bland, just like most games from this part of history. The game elects no reason why a player should go through all the effort to make the game work or tolerable. Just read the plot on the official Wikia and play the third game instead. They mostly retcon the second game anyway due to its poor reception. The only reason people like this game now is because people believe that this game has earned a cult classic status and is akin to something like Psychonauts or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It's not. It has no qualities that make a game a cult classic.

This needs a remake

I loved the game in every way. Gameplay and story were awesome but the artwork and music create an atmosphere that I've seen in very few games. I played it long time ago and finished the game twice. If they remake it with better visuals I'll probably play again. Not sure how the GOG version runs on modern computers but if you've never played it before I'd recommend playing through all PoP games.

A disaster of a sequel

Grotesque levels of violence and gore, childish attempts at maturity, storyline full of stupid and plot holes, ruined combat with ridiculously fragile weapons, and plain ugly graphics with excessive amounts of brown and bloom. Yeah, the acrobatics are still fun, and the chase sequences are awesome, but otherwise it's a pretty bad sequel and the worst of the series.

One of the best platformers - almost...

Sands of Time was a great game with an unmistakenable DNA of the original Prince of Persia and some innovative features like time rewind. The platforming was very good, the levels very well designed, the sidekick cute and dialogues funny - only fighting left a bit to be desired. While still quite tactical in that timing of attacks and target selection were crucial, you basically had one attack. Warrior Within attempted to improve things and it did! The story is actually quite good for a platformer, the level design second to none, both in ingenuity and looks, the idea of going back and forth through time and seeing the same temple new and in ruin pretty cool fighting has been improved, with several additional attacks, including some incorporating the environment and the boss fights fun. The difficulty is just right and the game stays fresh. Evidently however Ubisoft decided to target early teenage boy demographic and changed the style from fairy tale Arabian Nights to cringy, cliche, solemn, 'edgy' fantasy in a wrong sense. Both the look of the prince and his permamently brooding face and voice and, especially, female characters severly detract from the experience. If you can however look past the huge polygon boobs and skimpy clad women, then this game is still a must play for platformer fans along Tomb Raiders.
