A beautiful, but console game

This game is made for console. Console gamers want the controls to be easy, if they happen to feel lost in the game, they want an instant magic light to show them the way, when they die they want to respawn just a couple of seconds before they failed. They want to be told which buttons to press during fights. They want to run over the map to collect a million lights put there for them to collect. And they get all this in Prince of Persia. Unfortunately this is not what I'm expecting of a game, and it was somewhat irritating. So why am I rating 5 stars? Because the game is so fantastically beautiful that it was pleasant to play anyway, just to watch the world! After every part of the game, a part of the world is cleaned from the black plague, and it changes appropriately. The game is a bit repetitive, but not to the point when you just don't believe anything new will happen. The story is not bad, although way less beautiful than in Sands of Time. The fighting system is interesting, although very console-gamers-targeted. In general I must say not everyone will like it, but for me it was both fun and challenging at times. Maybe I'll even play it again in the next couple of years :)

What a disappointment.

The cell-shading graphics, the music, the atmosphere, the attention to details are all very good. But the gameplay sucks. You spend most of the game collecting light seeds, not really exciting right? And the fighting system is awful and feels like a succession of QTE.

Everything you loved about Sands of Time

This new Prince of Persia release brings back the fantasy world of Sands of Time (many critics of Warrior Within Poo Pooed the departure from Sands of Time's fairy tale like setting). Once again the environment takes center stage in the game (which makes sense in a game that is primarily about overcoming environmental puzzles). There's some meat on this game. You're not going to finish it on a single sit through and there's a nice back story that unravels nicely (if somewhat predictably) as you play through the game. For the completionists out there, you have a lot of optional puzzles to solve in order to gather ALL the collectibles in the game and you can go back to complete the collection in any prior completed area. The game is fun and as you progress through the story, you unlock new powers that basically provide new moves to overcome additional puzzles. In truth the powers while providing different actions and animations are little more than "keys" to ensure you complete quests in a certain order. But it's manifested in such a breath taking manner, you won't mind.

Fantastic

Imaginative game that does away with the traditional "game over" screen. Very beautiful, fun puzzles, great backstory - and it's relaxing to play. Quite enjoyable. Sadly, most people don't really understand the concept of this game and post childish, hyperbolic 1-star reviews. Right. 1 star. OK. Look past the whining about the game being "too easy" and enjoy an excellent setting - one that, sadly, Ubisoft will likely never revisit.

Not the best, but very good game

This title brought some fresh air to the Prince of Persia series. It's different. First of all it's a standalone game, not a part of the Sands of Time trilogy (Forgotten Sands is not a game... it's bullshit, so Sands of Time series remains a trilogy). Second thing you must remember is that the main character is not a prince. He's a thief and a tomb raider. But there is a Princess... And there is no Persia at all... Why the Prince of Persia title then? I don't know - go ask the devs. Combat is simple and somewhat relaxing, same goes to jumping stuff. You cannot die but if you fall you must begin from the last safe place you were on. So it's not that casual game as many may think. My biggest issue with this game is the lack of real ending. It's a cliffhanger. If you want to see the ending go buy consol version and DLC... Ubisoft! You screwed this badly!
