review of SWAT2 only

SWAT 2 is worth the price alone. It was completely under the radar in its day (although I remember the dummy boxes at EB and thinking the graphics looked like real life haha). It has flaws (there are control mechanics that are annoying or flawed, it can be slow paced when you play at a usable speed, but it all works). It is an RTS game but with no resource management within the level. You assign the number of officers or terrorists you want to bring to the level based on budget (which you make more money the better the outcome of each level is). You can train characters to get better (although with only 16 or so levels per side you need to start this right away and focus only on a few select traits since you will not have enough time to really dive in deep). I played it over and over in order to perfect each level and outcome and had a blast. Side note; being the terrorists and just playing a single mission, blowing your budget, and just seeing how well you can stand off against the 20 or so SWAT guys that come after you is a sadistic blast. I want to find it and do it all over again.... (sadly the expected expansion never came and the multiplayer was disastrously slow).

Zero a sniper rifle.. if you can

I remember playing this back in the 90's. I was rubbish at it and kept getting shot on the first mission. I recently bought this game on GOG and realised that I was playing it wrong. The game places a lot of emphasis on learning to be a member of a SWAT team, if you don't put in at least some time reading the training manuals and attending the shooting range you will probably have no idea what to do. Turns out I kept dying as I was blocking other members of the teams line of sight or leaving a doorway uncovered. There aren't that many missions to play through but there is added replayability as you will sometimes be given different roles in the mission. You can also train as a sniper which unlocks sniper calls outs for a bit of change in gameplay. I'm not sure if there's a way to "finish" the game as after a while I kept getting called back out to missions I had already completed. All in all not a bad game but be aware that much like police quest you need to be aware of the rules to get the most out of the game.

Flawed gems

SWAT 2: Bust into a hospital. Booby trap the entrances with grenades on strings. Take hostages. Hand out religious pamphlets. Demand the police send you takeway. Feed the prisoners. Demand the police send you money. Grab it. Make off with the hostages and the cash. The Terrorist campaign in SWAT2 has one of the most unique mechanisms I have seen in a game: the possibility to conduct hostage negotiations, and make the demands. Demand food, demand cash, demand a getaway vehicle, try to escape with hostages to brainwash. Unfortunately it's flawed in many ways. Preparation time between missions is cumbersome and click-heavy. Issuing commands is cumbersome. AI for your own people is bad/nonexistent and you have to micromanage too many of them. If you're a game connoiseur who can force yourself to slog through these frustrations, then SWAT2 will reward you with a very unique game experience.

SWAT 2 wont launch in Windows 10

Ive tried downloading DLL files to fix this problem. No luck. Seems to be a widespread issue but apparently still no fix. Very disappointing.
