This game just rocks!

This is game that took me a while to like. At first, I expected baldur's gate. I was disappointed storywise and the combat system get some time to get used to. It isn't D&D at all. After I really gave it a chance, I can now appreciate how good the story and the combat system is. Only thing that bothers me is no romance. But hey, can't have everything I guess. Go for it, youwould not be disappointed. BTW, I tried the linux version and I am very surprised how well the game run. I'm running this on a chrombook C720P with Lubuntu and it doesn't stutter that much. So Intel HD 2000/3000 is fine for this game.

Excellent game

I have been looking for a new 'Baldur's Gate II' for quite some time and this is it. Although it is more up to date and has better graphics. The few points of critique I have is that a few times, your choice influence the game quite heavily (good), but a lot of times it didn't do too much. Also, save the original boss for AFTER the DLC, because I did it before, and then the game ends. Some people say that it's a lot of reading, but most time when I get bored with reading, there is enough fighting coming, so the balance between that is on point for my taste. And a better overview of my skills would have been nice (or I haven't found it...). But overall, definitely a 5 out of 5.

Great RPG with a single drawback

I always loved CRPGs like this, Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Planescape, etc. I truly missed them when they seemingly stopped being made for a while there. I was so happy to see them reappearing from various developers. Not only are they making a comeback of sorts, but they are good. This one in particular is pretty great! I liked the story and loved the characters. I did feel like the story ended sort of abruptly. My biggest gripe with the game is that the combat it realtime with pause. I've never enjoyed that style of play. Thats what I'm knocking the one star off my rating for. I wish Obsidian would switch to turn based combat for their games. Maybe in the future. Even if not, I'm sure I'll get whatever else they make.

Good RPG

PoE start slow and can come to boredom after a short time... But, when Act II is reached, history becomes more profound and interesting... like a cup of milk with honey, when you approach the bottom of the cup, the milk becomes increasingly sweet. PRO: - Lore and story. - Level Design of the dungeons. - Many factions and varieties of enemies. - Many moral choices for characters dialogues. - Excellent Art Design. - Violent and outspoken (not politically correct). VERSUS: - Fantasy setting is too classic and "trivial". - Too many loadings. - Just a few really funny characters. - Casting spells is limited by rest - Poor dubbing of the characters. - Poor loot variety from enemies. - Anonymous musics 7.8/10

Three times good!

I'm quite a casual player and do not prefer any particular genre but rather look for an interesting game to immerse into. I do not need a powerful computer as gaming is not my priority and modern games require to invest a lot into hardware. So I occasionally turned to GOG to taste a few 10-15 years old games that I missed back in the 2000s. The most memorable RPGs I played in those times were the Fallout and Diablo series, which I all walked through, perhaps even a couple of times. The Infinity engine games I, oddly enough, discovered only recently through GOG. Planescape Torment impressed me by its unprecedentedly deep story and then I turned to Baldur's Gate to be impressed by its full D&D game mechanics. Yet I didn't manage to walk through them as at some point I became bothered. They might have been perfect games 15 years ago for a younger person but now it seemed ridiculous to spend so much time on repeating things like carrying the equipment back and forth, resting after every fight to recover health and a few other things. And now here is Pillars of Eternity. I carefully read through a couple of dozens of reviews and while those on the first page give the game 5 stars and excited vows, many of those on the following pages rate it quite poorly. I nevertheless decided to give it a try. And I'm more than impressed. It's sleek, polished, beautiful, interesting, and what is more important, it is a game! It is not a business-merchendsing-advertising noname product in a beautiful wrapping almost empty inside aimed to be sold to you by all means. It is solidly a piece of game art, e.g. the art of creating games, personally I would even say it is a masterpiece. The company behind the game did a great job both in sticking to spirit and traditions of classics, and showing their own creativeness and mature vision. I did not describe the game's mechanics or storytelling, this has been done much better by other reviewers. My point is that if you are a 30+ person with casual gaming habits and a bit of nostalgia for good old games, this is the best isometric RPG to be played in 2017-- I have found so far.
