Immerse yourself in the history of Ancient Egypt with 50 missions and over 100 gameplay hours in Pharaoh™: A New Era, a remake of Pharaoh (and the expansion Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile), one of the best city builders from the golden age of Sierra Entertainment. Stone by stone, build your city and manage all aspects of its development to ensure it prospers and makes you a powerful and revered Pharaoh.
Develop your city by cultivating the fertile lands along the banks of the Nile valley. Erect the iconic monuments of Ancient Egypt, including the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Build temples and mausoleums to help manage all aspects of your city's health and culture as well as the predominant polytheistic religion of the time.
Ensure your city is prosperous enough to deal with economic or political crises, or even plundering by enemies. A Pharaoh takes care of its people and does whatever it can to earn the favour of the gods.
Pharaoh™: A New Era celebrates 20 years since the release of the famous franchise with a complete remake, including more than 50 playable missions and over 100 hours of gameplay.
The "Campaign" mode teaches you the game basics while allowing you to experience a unique story in the heart of Ancient Egypt and explore all aspects of life in a thriving city.
You have everything at your disposal to build an entire city and manage all its fundamental elements to ensure it flourishes: the economy, internal and external trade, culture, health, agriculture, education, etc. To help you monitor your progress, various indicators show you the overall well-being of your city and its residents.
The journey back in time is really brought to life with this Ultra HD remake, which upgrades the gameplay mechanics to modern standards and completely redesigns the captivating soundtrack and gorgeous isometric 2D graphics.

I was a fan of the original and so snapped this up when it came out. Its buggy, and in a way that quietly shuts your city down without much warning. For example, your trade routes stop functioning when you make edits to them and your fishing boats stop harvesting, starving your city very quickly.
The battle system is also changed and while on paper I think its an improvement, it doesn't mesh well with one of the God's blessings.
The original game was really cool, but I've always thought that there was a possibility to make something even better just my improving some of the mechanics and with a modern refresh. This game tries to do the modern refresh, but the mechanics are just worse than a 20-years-old game, which is clearly not a good point. A lot of bugs! Clearly disappointing.
I loved this game when it came out years ago, even was part of the closed beta for the Cleopatra expansion. Reviving the game with improved graphics seemed a great idea. I liked the flexibility of choosing stable populations and universal recruiting, both of which make the game more realistic and playable in my opinion.
Sadly, the playability of the game remains poor. Problems:
1. Work camps stop working randomly and can sometimes be restarted by loading an older sva - but not always.
2. Ferry crossings will always move immigrants but frequently will not allow the distribution of goods. Relocating ferries after you have built up a city can be problematic and frustrating.
3. Soldiers will not use ferries, period. This means that your recruiter and all forst must be on the same chunk of land not separated by rivers.
4. Pests/predators - in the original game, policemen would kill pests walking around populated areas if they came onto roads. Not in this revival. A tower manned by an archer would also engage in pest control.
5. Invasions. While I don't mind the off-map combats, there is one episode that has become impossible to win. Police in the original game would also confront enemy soldiers with moderate success and manned towers provide additional defense. Without these auxilliary forces the episode Qadesh (I believe) becomes unplayable.
None of this has stopped me from playing, but it could certainly be improved.
This game seems to have been made as a mobile/iPad game but at the last moment they decided to port it to PC; other than the cartoony art style, the UI and the excessive clicking to get anything done, it works really well with my touch screen monitor. Don't get me wrong they've improved many aspects but this game has become abandonware in the semi complete state it's unplayable with the bugs and super slow response time.
