Immerse yourself in the history of Ancient Egypt with 50 missions and over 100 gameplay hours in Pharaoh™: A New Era, a remake of Pharaoh (and the expansion Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile), one of the best city builders from the golden age of Sierra Entertainment. Stone by stone, build your city and manage all aspects of its development to ensure it prospers and makes you a powerful and revered Pharaoh.
Develop your city by cultivating the fertile lands along the banks of the Nile valley. Erect the iconic monuments of Ancient Egypt, including the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Build temples and mausoleums to help manage all aspects of your city's health and culture as well as the predominant polytheistic religion of the time.
Ensure your city is prosperous enough to deal with economic or political crises, or even plundering by enemies. A Pharaoh takes care of its people and does whatever it can to earn the favour of the gods.
Pharaoh™: A New Era celebrates 20 years since the release of the famous franchise with a complete remake, including more than 50 playable missions and over 100 hours of gameplay.
The "Campaign" mode teaches you the game basics while allowing you to experience a unique story in the heart of Ancient Egypt and explore all aspects of life in a thriving city.
You have everything at your disposal to build an entire city and manage all its fundamental elements to ensure it flourishes: the economy, internal and external trade, culture, health, agriculture, education, etc. To help you monitor your progress, various indicators show you the overall well-being of your city and its residents.

Graphics are much better, yet some features have been removed. No keyboard keys to move map around and no ability to rotate screen as in original. Screen for festivals lists gods in different order that overseer of temples, which will leave you going from one to the other unless you remember the order to keep everyone happy.
100's of played games of original - this is clumsy and not intuitive even if it looks prettier.
Seems they fed the Egyptians well since they have all gotten chubby. Looks like 'The Settlers' Egypt version than pharaoh.
There are some high res mods out there of original - that didn't loose the soul of the game adding them.
The Labor pool is probably the real good add here - but worth the price, not really.
Love the redo of a classic city builder - maybe next one will be done by people who actually play/love them - not seeing it in this one.
They got 3 years of feedback from the community and they still didn't listen. Stil lthe same mobile cartoony style, still the same oversized npc's ... still the same ugly menu, and even more they managed to mess with the military system ... that's what you get from out of touch devs. They literally have a game from 2015 filled with game breaking crashing bugs, to this day still not fixed ...
Imagine if only GOG was selling Pharaoh bundled with Cleopatra at a bargain price for a decade, while adjusting them to easily run on modern hardware...
Oh, right, you don't have to imagine anything and you can just get that (if you still somehow didn't) for quarter the pricetag.
Why playing inferior, overpriced remake, when the superior original is widely accessible on any possible PC you can have, and sold by the exact same venue? The new version adds nothing worth your money and doesn't even work as a nostalgia bait. This game is the equivalent of carting wood into a forest.
Just nope.
The game looks good despite the controversial cartoony look, runs smoothly and is visually an overall decent imprvement. But mechanically - oh my, everything feels so incredibly clunky and unintuitive. The menus, building placement, screen scrolling (for the love of of everything thats holy PLEASE make the sceen scroll diagonal when you put the coursor in the corner!) it all feels like huge step back from the original (which is a major 'accomplishment' taking into accouint how old the base game is). If You have ever played the original game then make Yourself a favor and keep playing it instead of buying this. You will save Yourself a decent amount of money and an incredible amount of frustration.
The good:
Unlike many others, I don't have a problem with the graphics. The game looks nice and runs smoothly, and the soundtrack is great. These are the things that save this game from a one-star review.
The bad:
The UI is horrible. Some of it I can forgive and could propably get used to, but mostly it is a downgrade from the original game. There's no minimap so navigating the larger maps is a pain in the ***. Also, right click does nothing, for some reason only one mouse button is used
And the biggest let down is the combat. It was pretty clunky in the original so it should've been easy to improve. Instead it has been removed completely. When an enemy army attacks, you get a pop-up window for an auto-battle where your army and the enemy's face off in an empty field doing basically nothing until you click "continue" which finishes the battle and gives you a result screen. There's no way to affect the battle in any way. It feels like some horrible idle game.
If you are a fan of the original, this remaster is definitely not worth your money.
