I own and have played the original Saturn release for years. You can tell the team that made this loved the game a lot. It's beautiful and faithful to the original, runs great on PC. One observation is I do notice it is easier than the Saturn game. Can't say exactly why, but I can complete this game reliably, while I sometimes struggle with the last couple levels on Saturn. Not a bad thing necessarily, and I could up the difficulty. I'm just comparing the "normal" difficulty level of each. But I highly recommend it! I hope they remake the sequel and Orta (and Saga!).
Never played the original, however thoroughly enjoying this Starfox-esque experience. Plays pretty well even with integrated graphics after lowering the resolution a bit. Bought it at huge discount and believe it's worth it at this price.
This game almost convinced me to buy a Sega Saturn back in the day. Now I can play it on my PC in higher resolution graphics and I love it. Simple mechanics, relaxing and lovely soundtrack, and an interesting story you can piece together by observing the fantastical landscape and characters as you play. Works great with my XBox controller.
Nice railshooter remade for sega fanboys. This game was a big deal on the Sega Saturn back in the day and to get a physical copy now requires you to break your bank. Since i never got to play it on the actual machine this is like a dream come true. Other than that the gameplay does not disappoint and holds up well to modern standards.
I never had a chance to play Panzer Dragon back in the days and always thought it looked fun. So when I saw there was a new PC version I went for it, although $20 felt a bit pricy for such an old game. Unfortunately, after having cleared the game once I have to say that content wise it is perhaps worth $2 to me. I can understand if people who played it in the past feel nostalgic, but for someone who has never played these games there is just nothing there.
The game play is almost fun for the first level but goes downhill from there. Graphics are initially pretty but becomes more and more boring the further the game progresses. Controls are awkward and convoluted. The story and cutcense are uninspiring. The animations are stiff, stiff, stiff and lifeless (look at the facial expression and artefacts on the face of the protagonist).
Is the game challenging? Perhaps. I could not determine if it was lack of skills or just difficulty to control. but I still cleared the game in the first go. At some point during gameplay shooting went from manually key spamming to auto-fire and I have no clue how that happened, neither does the in game menus reveal anything. I took a long time until I realised I could lock targets and send bursts of missiles at them (perhaps level 3 or 4) and even longer time (until about level 5 or 6) that I realised I could move my dragon up, down, left, right.
It is a pitty the game does not include a tutorial because I think badly needs one.
