Panzer Dragoon: Remake

As the owner of a copy of this game on the Nintendo Switch, I can confirm that the PC version, released today, is the definitive edition. One of the biggest problems with the Switch version, when released months ago, was the steady drop in FPS. Over time it received several updates, and the final product was delivered today. The classic is preserved. It is the return of Panzer Dragoon to a new generation of players, and serving as a delight for the nostalgic. This remake preserves the computer graphics scenes of the original, and takes the heart of all fans with an incredible remix made by the game's original composer. However, it sins in the unacceptable absence of extras, which does not make sense given the historical value of the franchise. Furthermore, because it is short, it does not establish mechanisms to increase durability, which could be done, for example, with a score system and an online ranking. With fluid gameplay, Panzer Dragoon: remake was very well optimized for the PC. I swore that my modest computer would have trouble running the game, but luckily it didn't. Add that to the fact that games in the Rail Shooting genre are incredibly more enjoyable to play with a mouse and here you will have the definitive edition of a franchise that has always been underestimated, alongside icons of the genre, such as Sin and Punshment A safe purchase, no doubt. I await the remake of the sequence, which luckily is already confirmed.

I'm not too familiar with the Sega Saturn original, so I'll review the remake for what it is. It's a great arcade rail shooter with beautiful art design, an amazing soundtrack and a simple, yet very fun and addictive gameplay. It's a short and sweet experience that encourages replayabillity with its score system. The graphics are not cutting edge (it´s a Nintendo Switch port afterall), but the art design is incredible. There's a lot of personality in the visuals. The soundtrack is outstanding. The controls are simple. The game is on rails, so there's no free camera control. You can (and must) rotate the camera in 90º with the shoulder buttons to shoot every enemy. There are two fire buttons: a primary fire button that can shoot straight or be pressed to lock on enemies and a secondary fire. It's highly recommended to hammer both of them in some situations to increase the fire rate. There are some extras, like a Photo Mode and some unlockables once the game is beat. The only technical problem I experienced is the lack o v-sync. Like others, I had to force it on the control panel of my video card. I'm an AMD user and the only option that works for me is the AMD Enhanced Sync. I gave it 4 stars, but a 4.5 is more accurate for my experience. Great game and highly recommended! I'm looking forward to Panzer Dragoon Zwei Remake, as the Sega Saturn one is considered a vastly improved sequel.

... still a few areas where I wish it held up to my nostalgia. lot easier than the original (I could never finish it on normal, despite maxing out the pandora box in Panser Dragoon II) so I appreciate that I was able to finally complete the game, but there are still a lot of areas where I wish the camera functioned better (some times it will zoom in till you can't see your dragon, with lots of random highs and lows of responsiveness) and there are levels were the frame rate chugs because it isn't optimized well. But I can't deny that this remake was a labor of love that stayed true to the original in spirit, despite being 100% new assets.

Nothing to complain about. It's the original game with modern graphics. Now I just want a remake pf Galaxy Force 2 and House of the Dead...
