Oxenfree is a supernatural thriller about a group of friends who unwittingly open a ghostly rift. Play as Alex, a bright, rebellious teenager who brings her new stepbrother Jonas to an overnight party on an old military island. The night takes a terrifying turn when you unwittingly open a ghostly gate spawned from the island’s cryptic past. How you deal with these events, your peers, and the ominous creatures you’ve unleashed is up to you.
YOU determine every aspect of Alex's story while exploring Edwards Island, uncovering the base's dark past, and changing the course of your friends' lives.
A mind-bending supernatural adventure full of mystery and terror
An intelligent conversation system that changes the story and your relationships based on every decision
A unique radio mechanic that allows Alex to communicate with mysterious spectres and manipulate her world
a nice story with alot of choices. the game captures you in an very well made atmosphere. there isn't alot of gameplay, but i think the story makes up for that. Well worth you time
This is a very well written story driven title with characters whose personalities and fate's evolve as you make choices. The art direction is great and fits the stories theme, and music is eerie, pulling you into the mysterious atmosphere of the games narrative. My only criticism lays in the fact we don't get enough time to read over our options sometimes but apart from that I had a fantastic time. I feel it's well worth giving this game a try.
This is quite a charming game.
Visually, it's really nicely presented and the audio is top notch too. Voice acting is pretty amazing.
The conversation system is nice, but I found that all too often the choices disappeared before I had time to actually choose anything. Given as how the choices you make (or don't make) affect how the other characters react to you, this was a bit of an irritant.
The radio turning was an interesting idea that I haven't really come across in other games, it was well done and wasn't over used. Apart from that, and some other "tuning" type puzzles, there's not a lot of gameplay - walk around the island (very slowly), pick up letters, decode broadcasts, backtrack. Not a lot to do at all when you think about it. But it still made for a really nice game.
The story was interesting and I was knocked for six by the ending. Really well done.
If you are looking for a game where you are in total control of events... well, stay away. Oxenfree is more of an interactive adventure, but it's beautifully made. The story is compelling, the characters are realistic, the graphics are excellent and the Mogwai-esque music tops it all. Somewhat close to Stranger Things (a group of teenagers dealing with paranormal events), it left me with the same deeply unsettling feeling I get after watching an episode of Black Mirror. Nicely done. If I really have to find an issue, the time allowed to make a dialogue choice is sometimes way too little, and it would be nice to have a list of the anomalies found. But all in all a great game.
This game tells a vivid story and it does a really great job at that. All throughout the game, I was intrigued by what would happen next, with the story unfolding over time and evolving really nicely. This isn't a fast-paced action game or anything, and I appreciate that. The gameplay is very simple and not at all complicated. Instead, it's more of a relaxing game that allows you to enjoy the immersive story, beautiful art, and creative music (listen with headphones for a great experience!). I also liked how you could choose your own responses to questions. Most, if not all, responses were natural and very easy to pick. The experience overall (which lasted 6 hours straight for me) was very nice and relaxing, and watching the story unravel was a great experience. The only two negatives I could really think about were that some scenes were graphically slow to play out (but I use integrated graphics lol) and walking around was a bit slow. Still, I wouldn't let the minor issues outshine how great this game really is :D
