Game praised by the majority of media game outlets — why not give a shot, right?
In reality—uninteresting dialogues, annoying characters, bad to mediocre voice acting.
Do not waste your time on this indie "gem".
Great story, voice acting better then in most recent movies, backgrounds that look like hand painted, immersive perfectly fitting music and ambient sounds. If you're looking for a good story, a game when you actually got a chance to know you'r digital heros that's what you are looking for.
Walking over whole island doesn't annoy me at all. All those "long walks" are just helping me get deeper into game. They doesnt seems to me just a little cheat to make a game longer like for some people here.
It's the type of game that makes me search more for this type of story driven games.
It's 10/10 overall! But you must judge it as a one thing. Don't split on graphics/gameplay etc. Don't judge it as a game actually. It's just a great story.
So, goty 2016. How good is oxenfree?
There OKeish PLOT, realy nothing. that can be interesting.
CHARACTERS DESIGN is mediocre-good. Classical characters are walking cliches, but. like most of us, humang beings. Mediocracy is good. we barely can expect anything better, than that in adventure games.
VOCIE ACTING is most qestionable part of game. There tons of lines to cower walkthrough. But most of them have same general intonation and voice amplitude - it seems cheap, like voice recording was barely directed. On the other side, there few Ren's bass lines. they are in contrast to previous-furthure Ren's lines, So it feel spiky, when u hearing mans voice mutation ingame.
Overall GAME DESIGN is good. I disliked part, when player have to interract with tape recorder.
SOUND DESIGN is great. Well, as was mentioned before, there tons of voice lines. But there also well-suited background music. Player can'n'have to interract with sound aspects of game, aaand its fun to.
ART DESIGN is good. like whole game overall.
I would like to poin on 2 games. There some similarity with Broken age in art design, and i disliked it. Oxenfree was similar to KR0 gamedesignwise - ingame choices(like in telltale games) will decorate protagonist, rather to make difference to story line. Aaaand they have similar charecter - static. it is more alive in oxenfree, and its good.
Aaand its good.
Kinda creepy and confusing but a bloody amazing journey. Everything made.....sense in the end......well. Kind of. I guess I can just go back replay it. Hopefully it'll make sense the second time around. Kinda creepy and confusing but bloody amazing journey.
