Description
Includes 4 DLC packages: The Bulgarian Colossus, Damsel in Distress, The Arms Industry, and The Con Artist.

o·mer·ta (-mûrt, mr-tä) - A rule or code that prohibits speaking or divulging information about the activities of a criminal organization.

Bug-eyed Bettys are making a racket with “lips that touch wine, won’t kiss mine” and not minding their own beeswax. The fuzz are busy closing down the local juice joints and pouring perfectly good spirits down the drain. All this fuss about liquor sure can drive a man to drink. It isn’t easy to wet one’s whistle but there some bootleggers who are always happy to provide as long as you got the scratch.

Omerta: City of Gangsters puts you into the boots of a fresh-from-the-boat immigrant with dreams of the big life. Work your way up the criminal hierarchy of 1920’s Atlantic City, starting with small jobs, recruiting new gang members and expanding your empire by taking territory from other mobsters. Establish your own crime syndicate and become the de facto ruler of Atlantic City!
  • Conquer a historically accurate Atlantic City with 20 unique districts featuring real-world landmarks in a story-driven campaign or sandbox freeplay game.
  • Strategic real-time gameplay for planning coups, expanding your territory, extorting the competition, and bribing the authorities.
  • Lead your henchmen into elaborately planned turn-based tactical combat as you pull off bank heists, robberies, street battles, and more.

Don't expect too much...

After seeing the trailer, i thought this might just be a good remake for Gangsters: Organized Crime but then i noticed its developed by Kalypso (which did tropico3/4 which are really bad remakes for Tropico2) so i didn't put my hopes up. The game needed more depth in businesses, larger cities, competition, a more active police force, and more control in TB mode. Compared to Gangsters developed by HotHouse this seems like a very bad attempt to copy a once successful game. I finished Omerta and it left me with a bitter taste of wasted time through the missions where i had to redo all my businesses with every district change. The money comes way to easy, and the opportunities to buy cheap/sell expensive are way too many. I would not recommend it to anyone hoping for a Gangsters: OC remake with TBS elements. It's basically Tropico with Gangsters.

Play the demo before you buy

There is demos out there and this game shouldn't be bought with out playing one. Its not horrible, but its not great either. Its best described like "playing monopoly against yourself"

Fun turn based combat.

Sure you have to go through some mindless city building. Most levels can be won by build a couple distilleries and a pharmacy then launder money for people when you can. The fun is building up the characters. there are some over powered combinations, but I do find the combat to be fun. I did hear horrid things about the game and waited for it to go on sale but worth the sale price.

Good but mixed feelings. Way too pricey.

The game is played on a 3D representation of the quarter of the city you are playing in. Each quarter is like a "level". There you select a building to interact with. You can buy them, raid them, establish a more or less legal business in them, etc... There are also "jobs" in which you get a merchandise and sell it to someone interested to make dirty money. When interacting with buildings you have to send youself or one of your henchmen to do the job. Each one has his/her own stats so not all of them are the same. From time to time violence unleashes and you have to fight. Those parts are Silent Storm-like. I love turn based combat so... it depends on what you like. The beautiful scenery is just eye candy. Your only interaction with it is when you select a building and in the combat section. Bottomline: Interesting but way too expensive for what it offers. So, wait for a good sale and buy it then if you like this kind of games, but don't pay the fuill price because it's not justified at all.

Still needs work.

I had planned to come here and give this a high rating, as DLC is now included and the game has been patched. However, there are still some basic flaws with the game that make it a mediocre experience (even for the $5 I paid). Your earnings don't carry over from one "chapter" to the next (as your operation increases around the city). What's the point, then? In combat, if you have a knife you can stand directly next to someone and still be "too far away." Yet, I can stab someone through a wall. Huh? Conversely, you can have a gun, stand right next to someone, and only have a 64% chance of hitting them. Again...huh? The lack of ability to move the camera directly overhead can make movement options difficult to see in combat segments. Is it the worst game ever? Not even close. However, these remaining flaws make it a less than average experience. It's too bad: The premise is original, the music is good, and the graphics are decent. This has so much potential to be great that it saddens me that the devs don't care about fixing it.
