A true action roguelike
...which keeps on getting deeper and more fun with each update. The gameworld is already truly massive with a number of well hidden secrets. I am already greatly enjoying this game but it is not for everyone. Especially when learning the game systems, the player will die - over and over again, and often in ways that seem "unfair". Even when the player understands the game quite well, the interaction of the various spells, abilities and enemies can be delightfully unpredictable, resulting in situations which are difficult or impossible to survive. This means that the game rewards caution and requires the player to weigh and creatively manage risk. In other words, it REALLY feels like an old school roguelike (minus some of the less enjoyable features, like hunger mechanics), especially if you turn up the difficulty level. If I have one criticism of the game it is that at the moment if feels like there is a relatively small number of builds which are viable for getting through the latter levels, but I have no doubt that will change given that over the past few months build options have already been dramatically expanded. With further development/mods I could well see this being one of the evergreens, like Nethack/ADOM/DCSS.
