Description
Noita is a magical action roguelite set in a world where every pixel is physically simulated. Fight, explore, melt, burn, freeze and evaporate your way through the procedurally generated world using spells you've created yourself. Explore a variety of environments ranging from coal mines to freezing wastelands while delving deeper in search for unknown mysteries.

  • Pixel-based physics: Every pixel in the world is simulated. Burn, explode or melt anything. Swim in the blood of your foes! Enter a simulated world that is more interactive than anything you've seen before.
  • Your own magic: Create new spells as you delve deeper into the caverns. Use magic to crush your enemies and manipulate the world around you.
  • Procedurally generated world: Explore a unique world every time you play. Discover new environments as you adventure deeper.

  • Action roguelite: Death is permanent and always a looming threat. When you die, don’t despair, use what you’ve learned to get further on your next adventure.

Noita is being developed by Nolla Games, a company set up by 3 indie developers, all of whom have worked on their own projects in the past.

The three gents in question are:

Petri Purho
Petri is best known as the creator of Crayon Physics Deluxe. In his youth he also made a lot tiny freeware games. He has also made a bunch of board games, but he hasn't told about it to anyone. So please keep it a secret.

Olli Harjola
Olli released his first commercial game The Swapper in 2013. Besides indie games, he also dabbles in music, live visuals and making programming languages.

Arvi Teikari
Arvi is also known as Hempuli. Over the years he has released a lot of tiny experimental games, so many in fact that he is unaware of all of them. One of the games he remembers making is Baba Is You.

Demands Your Attention

Noita is an incredibly unique roguelike, one that has an incredible amount of depth and requires you to get fully engaged with its systems to truly succeed. You can reach the deepest level and beat the final boss relatively easily, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. The game is expansive and full of cryptic secrets and puzzles, and becoming powerful enough that you can mostly freely explore the world and figure them out is only the first half of the game. Within the game's main loop are also the two main systems that make it stand out. Wand crafting is essentially dragging and dropping blocks of code, combining hundreds of spells and modifiers to create nearly infinite tools and weapons. With the right creativity and a wand with generous spell slots and mana you can make almost anything you can imagine, but it might also blow up in your face or melt you with acid. The other main system which is what makes it so dynamic and fun is the physics and alchemy system. Every type of material in the game ranging from water, to wood, to various densities of rock, to metal and coal has different properties. Everything interacts and you can interact with it to use the environment to your advantage, and this means being smart about how you navigate the world is half the battle. These systems combined with the world being procedurally generated on each run incentivizes you to be creative and take different approaches on each run. You'll need to be creative because Noita is hard, opportunities to heal are scarce and enemies can kill you in seconds if you're not careful. Experimenting and exploring beyond the main path the game encourages you to go down give a real sense of discovery and are some of the most fun parts of it. However, the amount of time you can invest into a run only to die and have to start from scratch also makes it frustrating if you don't want to invest a lot of time. If you're willing to though, there aren't many games as rewarding as Noita.

I wish

I love this game, it's very very fun, but it's extremely unforgiving. It's advertised as a roguelike. It says right on the label that it's hard, and progression takes 1000000 hours of practice (or at least the amount of practice needed is exponential to your age or something, and I'm only getting older). You can progress, tinker your wand, get amazing perks, collect tons of health upgrades, be very very careful, then whoops, an enemy shoots a thing that was in the dark which blows up something and bla bla bla and you're dead, instantly. Now this is fine, cause again, the game says it's going to do this. The problem is that all that progress is basically chucked down the drain and you start from scratch. I like the starting from scratch, but let me feel SOME accomplishment by almost clearing The Vault and then dying. Ultimately, the issue is that I work ~50 hours / week and take care of two kids. I sometimes go a week without playing or more. I may choose to play a game with my friends in the little free time I have. I sometimes feel the game is saying: Well friend, you can't get the reps in to master this game so *shrug* sorry. Having said that, since I bought this thing, gog says I've logged 238 hours and have 50% of the achievements. Looking online and at how many hours one should play this game to master / beat it, per the interwebs, I just really, really suck at the game. This is a bummer because I do really enjoy it and want to keep playing. You can add mods, but then it feels like you're playing the game in a way the game was not intended to be played and that's a bummer. I wish there was a "loudout" of spells you can earn or a better starting wand based on what you've "unlocked" in the game or something. I dunno. TLDR: Good game. Frustratingly punishing for tiny tiny things sometimes completely out of your control. Often with hours of work down the drain with nothing to show for it. Wanting to progress, but apparently I suck. Shrug

too grindy. no permamaent buffs/bonuses.

its a lot like Caveblazers (in a way of how grindy it is). This game is not bad. Its interesting, But for me: if there is no way to have any permamaent buffs betwqeen the runs, or favorite spells/wands saved (at least 1), then there is no motivation to keep going. Because its pointless. As you play you "discover" new items and learn on how to use them, but the chanse of getting the same perk/wand on the next run is 1:100. So wheres the motivation behind learning it? Dont get me wrong, its an interesting game. But unless I have the freedom to assemble from scratch at least 1 wand I just loose the interest in the game. Why? Because Im fightning RNG at this point. Dont forget that sometimes you will die upon activating the unkown ward/item, so it will drag out your RNG progress even more as a result.

Elemental reactions are fascinating

Mild rogue and wonderful element reaction make people feel very interesting. The map is also very exploratory. But I think it's a little difficult after the second map of the game, so that I often drown by monsters on the third map. Many times I get very bad weapons, which makes me often want to start over.
