Exploration is the driving force
I'll mainly stick to why this game manages to make me keep thinking about it, and coming back to playing it on my computer. Exploration - it manages to get this into your head right from the start. You're tasked with finding things in this alien world in a brand new game that doesn't exactly hold your hand. I enjoy it because it constantly gives me the itch of, "what's the next thing I can find?" or "I wonder what's over there?" Yes, I totally understand it can get repetitive, but I'm one of the people that enjoyed and played through the first Assassin's Creed. It's not about the repetitive actions, it's about getting to the greater goal of finding out who or what the hell your character is, and then getting to the other planetary systems. Things I hear from other players and reviewers - I've yet to encounter. What I'm mostly hearing from review sites and podcasts of people who keep coming back, is that they're not sure why they like it. I think it's curiosity, and it has been a while since a game has made us feel this sort of curiosity whilst surrounded by an immense amount of controversy and divisive opinions. I'll sum it up as a "carrot on a stick" that makes you think about what the hell flavor it is, it sure isn't carrot. As for all the optimization issues, I have an i7-4790K, GTX 970, 16GB of RAM, and my game is installed on a regular 7200RPM hard drive. When I first started the game, I definitely felt the chugging. It was a huge letdown seeing the game running at 30FPS. For some reason the game felt so good to play, that I ignored it for the first 2 hours. Then I needed to explore faster. So I went onto the NMS subreddit and found a bunch of FPS and hitching fixes. Once you get this game, you'll enjoy it to the point that you either ignore the problem (wasn't horrible for me) or you will actively seek out a solution to continue enjoying the game. It's hard to figure out if you'd wanna purchase this, but exploration and discovery are what drove me.
