A wonder this exists

More than ten years after Bioware/Atari abandoned their premium module program, somehow this was completed. And thank goodness it was; together with the other AL modules (Siege of Shadowdale, Crimson Tides of Tethyr), this DLC provides a tour de force of western Faerun, with meticulous attention to Realmslore detail. While the story is relatively linear, the characters and plot twists raise this DLC's plot (and that of the series of modules) to heights that rival those of the official expansions. This is also the best that Neverwinter Nights has ever looked. I hope that one day I'll get the chance to play the fourth installment in this series, the Blades of Netheril. Bravo Ossian!

A really good adventure

...if a tad uneven and rough around the edges Pros: An expansion-legnth campaign - easily took around twenty hours to complete. Great writing and dialogue. The quests love to introduce twists on top of twists and it keeps you wondering what comes next. Great location design - all of the locations look distinct and believable, none of them have the "This tile goes here" problem of the core NWN1 campaign. Good graphics and sound - there's new music unique to this module and some pretty decent voicework. Also there are new exclusive monster models, well-animated and textured, not to mention storybook style intro and outros. Good attention to detail, especially when it comes to the Forgotten Realms lore. Now for the cons: The difficulty curve is pretty uneven. It starts pretty challenging, then it gets pretty easy and stays that way up until the end, but the final boss still gave me a hard time. The locations can feel a tad empty at times, due to low amount of sidequests in them. The amount of quests overall is decent, but some locations can feel pointless at times. It gives the impression that the devs had more content planned but had to scrap it. The pace also gets uneven in the second half of the expansion, when you start sailling around the four major cities of the Moonsea - there's less questing and more running around here and there. There are currently some bugs that weren't there on release and will hopefully be fixed later down the line - one semi-optional quest is impossible to complete. I say "semi-optional" because while it is not mandatory to beat the game without it, one particular place can get very hard without specific character builds or equipment. Another sidequest didn't even start for me, so I wasn't able to complete that one either. Even with all those caveats, I would still say it's a worthwhile adventure and a great addition to the Neverwinter Nights experience.

Top notch premium module

This and Darkness Over Daggerford are easily the top two best premium modules for NWN, and they are exclusive to Enhanced Edition. Ossian Studios never disappoints! This is from the same creator as Siege of Shadowdale and Crimson Tides of Tethyr (and references the latter and Darkness Over Daggerford), and it surpasses both of those and the added production value from Ossian is really evident in this one. You explore so many of the most famous and infamous places in the Moonsea including Zhentil Keep itself. It is packed with Forgotten Realms lore and exquisite attention to detail, making it a real breath of fresh air. It's a fairly high level campaign that, like Darkness Over Daggerford, is one of the longer premium modules at 20 hours or more. Like Crimson Tides of Tethyr it is full of twists and plot elements that make you realize you are not the biggest fish in the sea. It still has its cliche moments and doesn't have the most role-playing ever, but it is still an awesome experience that never becomes too repetitive. Not only do this and Darkness Over Daggerford surpass the other premium modules, I easily rank both above the original campaign.

Greatest of the Premium Modules

After playing through the great Darkness Over Daggerford, I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this module, but very quickly I ended up liking it more than it. The module is high level adventuring in the hostile Moonsea region which I was not familiar with previously. Cities like Hillsfar were especially interesting. The adventure has solid writing and story to keep you intrigued till the end with a few unexpected twists and turns. It is mostly linear but has a fair share of side quests to net you more experience and power. In terms of difficulty I found it fairly easy even with my underleveled level 13 Sorcerer which I imported from Darkness Over Daggerford. I played it with D&D Hardcore Rules difficulty. Apart from a certain optional undead boss monster (which I still have no clue how to defeat) nothing was too much a challenge. In conclusion a high level D&D adventure which is in my opinion roughly as good as the great Hordes of the Underdark.

Dark Souls of Neverwinter Nights

Dark Souls of Neverwinter Nights, what more can I say? Ok right, the storyline overall feels both intricate, making use of a ton of D&D lore (which I like!) and has interesting concepts behind the companions, at the same time the dialogues themselves often feel rather dry and sober, a bit more emotion and colour could have elevated it. The atmosphere overall is rather dark, but for me, that's a good thing.
